SDCC 2014 Marvel Universe Infinity Gauntlet Starfox

You saw Thanos and Death from the SDCC 2014 exclusive Infinity Gauntlet set. Now here's Starfox.

I can hardly recall the character so I had to look it up. His actual name is Eros. He had to use the name Starfox as the Avengers found his name inappropriate. One of his powers was being able to make those around him feel good about him. He supposedly has used this power for personal interests. He currently no longer has this power.

The figure is basically a repaint of Quicksilver with a stuck on white chest piece and wrist bands. The head sculpt suits Starfox just fine. His hair was well painted. There are bright red streaks in his dark red hair. The fox symbol was well painted on. And there's some blue wash on his midsection and boots. Overall he's a nice looking figure.

He comes with the Infinity Gauntlet. It's the same as the one that came with Adam Warlock. Starfox has an open left hand and you can see it when he's wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. It looks better on Warlock whose left hand is a fist.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball hips, double jointed knees and ankle swivel and hinge.

Comparison shots.

Starfox is a nice addition. Thanks for viewing!

Indonesia Toy, Game & Comic Convention in November 2014

Jakarta, 18 September 2014 - Following the success of Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC), which in its 7th edition drew more than 40,000 fans, Reed Panorama Exhibitions (RPE) announces that it will be launching Indonesia Toy, Game & Comic Convention (ITGCC) at Hall C, JIExpo on 22-23 November 2014. ITGCC aims to bring the best of East and West to Indonesia, uniting the worlds of toys, comics, games, anime, manga and collectibles. Five top-notch pop culture personalities are also scheduled to make their first appearance in Indonesia to kick-start the wave of excitement leading up to ITGCC 2014.

ITGCC is expected to be the biggest convention for toys, comic, games, anime, manga, and collectibles lovers in Indonesia, where visitors will have an opportunity to explore and enjoy creative works from artists all around the region. Fans in Indonesia will be able to meet their favorite pop culture personalities and be the first to own limited edition and exclusive items by leading brands. Apart from showcasing the latest products from exhibitors and artist alley participants, ITGCC will also be the platform for creative people in Indonesia, such as illustrators, mangakas, toy designers and graphic novelists to introduce their work to the public.

ITGCC will also provide a wide palette of pop culture offerings, which includes Panels with pop culture personalities from East and West, Walk of Fame to obtain rare autographs. Indonesian cosplayers will get a chance to meet and gather with the fellow cosplay communities where they can express their style and share expertise in costume making and makeup.

The ITGCC DJ Night will be the first in Indonesia to spin the latest hits from popular Japanese games and anime. From the East, ITGCC has invited three renowned DJs from Japan, baker, Highdriver, and Yuyoyuppe, each highly-regarded for their work in the different realms of Japanese music – Anisong and Vocaloid, to play all-time favourite tunes that will bring the house down.

Two pop culture personalities from the West complete the first release of star-studded line-up to meet and greet their fans in Indonesia. In his continuous search for talents who want to work in Marvel, C. B. Cebulski, Marvel Comics’ International Talent Scout will be conducting portfolio reviews to scout for aspiring artists during ITGCC 2014. Pop Culture illustrator Simone Legno, creator of tokidoki who has collaborated with Sanrio, Sephora and Karl Lagerfeld, will bring a portion of tokidoki-land to delight his fans at ITGCC 2014.

“The launch of ITGCC is our next step to unite pop culture fans in Southeast Asia. After seven amazing editions in Singapore, we are glad to be able to bring the same excitement to Indonesia where all of loyal fans will have an opportunity to unite and enjoy the vibrant international content from the East and West,” said Ms Rita Magnus, Senior Manager, Project and Content, Pop Culture Cluster.

SDCC 2014 Marvel Universe Infinity Gauntlet Nebula

Here's the last figure of the SDCC 2014 Infinity Gauntlet set, Nebula.

The name should be familiar to you. Especially after her appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. This figure is of her in her classic look from the comics. She's got a great head sculpt. She has a pretty mean look. Her eyes and eyebrows were very well painted. Also her metallic blue lipstick. I just love her skin tone. It's got a bit of shine to it, especially on her face. It kinda looks like a bluish pearl. Her hair too was well sculpted and has some blue highlights. The body uses the newer female base body. Her hands are the same as Scarlet Witch's. Her costume details were pretty well painted. There's some bleeding on her arms though. She wears her belt a little too high for my liking. Her boot tops are separate pieces and have nice sculpted detail on them. The buckles were even painted.

Articulation. She's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

Great figure. Nebula and Death were my two most wanted figures of the set. Me stupidly shipping the set packaged took some joy out of it though... Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Avengers Infinite Series 3.75" Wonder Man (Ionic)

Here's a look at the 3.75" Wonder Man from the Avengers Infinite Series.

Wonder Man was the only figure I wanted from the latest case assortment. The figure is the exact same figure as the previously released version in the Greatest Battles 2-pack with Quicksilver. Except this time he's made with translucent purple plastic to show him in his Ionic form. The only paint details he has are his eyes and the red "W" on his body.

With both figures of Wonder Man we can mix and match the parts and have him in the midst of powering up or powering down.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball hips, double jointed knees and ankle swivel and hinge.

Comparison shots. I was never fond of Wonder Man in this costume and I prefer the Ionic form figure.

I would like to get a figure of him in his safari jacket but that can wait. Thanks for viewing!

Star Wars Rebels Preview

I've been feeling a disturbance in the Force. It's as if millions of voices are crying out, unable to hold in the anticipation of catching the new upcoming Star Wars Rebels series. Not long more do we have to wait as a one hour special will premiere on the Disney Channel on 4 Octorber 2014 at 11am and on Disney XD on 5 October 2014 at 8am. The Star Wars Rebels series will begin on the Disney Channel on 29 November 2014 at 12 noon and on 30 November 2014 at 8.30am on Disney XD.

A preview for Star Wars Rebels was held yesterday at The Sandcrawler in Singapore. I was lucky to be invited to it. (I know, I know... you're going to say there's no such thing as luck...)

It was my first visit to the Sandcrawler, and I imagine the same for a good number of the media in attendance. I was just as excited to step inside the building as much as to catch the preview. The elevators corridor was shaped like the detention center corridor in Episode IV. The floor tiles are black and the walls white. Stepping out of the elevator felt like stepping onto the Death Star! We were directed to a function room with a small theatre. I would have loved to explore the rest of the building.

The event was a fun affair with Star Wars Rebels characters on the scene. We got to see Ezra, Sabine (both of whom had awesome costumes!) and several of the Imperial forces. Ezra and Sabine remained in character throughout. Very cool!

From left: Sabine, Ezra and Stormtroopers

You can view more pics here.

It's time I got to what you're really here to read about.

Spoilers ahead.

What we saw was the one-hour special, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion. You guys are going to love it! It has fun, action and humour. The show has a very familiar feel. It's something I haven't felt since... since the Original Trilogy. It should as the art is based on the Ralph McQuarrie concept art. Some of the scenes and camera angles used are also very similar to Episode IV. There's the Tie Fighter pilot helmet shot, the turret view blasting Tie Fighters, a Star Destroyer slowly engulfing a smaller ship and so on just to name a few. There are some kiddish scenes but the show is good and entertaining overall. The characters are likeable enough and the story draws you in. The animation is very smooth and I like that it has brighter visuals than The Clone Wars. One thing I didn't like though was how the Wookies looked. Then there's the score. It reuses some of the movie scores. Scenes are that much more awesome with them and I got goosebumps watching it!

The show is set 5 years before Episode IV. The story begins on the remote planet of Lothal where the Empire has invaded. There we find Ezra, who is the main character in the series. Ezra's a thief who cares for nothing but himself. He notices Kanan's group in the market place and attempts to hijack their score. He had to join them in the end of that sequence as Imperial forces were closing in. Through his time and interactions with the crew of the Ghost (name of the ship our heroes use), he discovers that there's more to life. Unknowingly to himself, he's a user of the Force. He can jump very high and is able to unlock a Holocron Cube.

Ezra with The Ghost in background

The crew of the Ghost include Kanan, a survivor of Order 66. He keeps his past and lightsaber hidden. Encountering Ezra has made him reflect on this. He brings out his lightsaber to the surprise of the Imperial forces in a battle. Epic scene! Hera's the pilot. She's calm under fire, casually discussing about Ezra with Kanan while manoeuvring away from Tie Fighters. She also cares greatly for her crew. Chopper is a disgruntled droid as compared to the usually obedient types. He doesn't like being given orders. Sabine is a demolitions expert. She uses coloured explosive paint to do graffiti on Imperial targets. She loves watching the explosions her work causes. She's also very pretty. Ezra was in awe when he first saw her unmasked. Zeb may not look it but he's a good guy at heart. He can be child-like. He's a skilled fighter who loves fighting. He's of the Lasat race. Now why would he be described as a rare "hairless Wookie"? (Nice nod to McQuarrie concept) Watch the Special to find out!

From left: Sabine, Kanan, Ezra, Zeb, Hera

Agent Kallus is a "kick-ass" Imperial officer. He charges into battle with the Stormtroopers. He's also very clever. He set a trap and was also able to intercept our heroes in the Special.

Agent Kallus

I haven't touched on one main character yet and that is the Inquisitor. There was only one scene with him and that was when Agent Kallus contacted him. He's voiced by Jason Issacs who fits the role perfectly. He sounded cold and merciless. I can't wait to see him in action!

The Inquistor

I was not intending to type out the events of the Special...  but I did so anyway.

More Spoilers Ahead!

Highlight the text if you want to read on. The events described may not be accurate or in sequence but is basically what happened.

If you've seen the extended preview, that is the start of the special.

I'll continue from where that left off. Ezra's speeder is destroyed by a Tie Fighter. The Ghost flies by and Kanan offers him a lift. More Tie Fighters in bound from a distance. Ezra accepts, jumping up a good distance with the stolen cargo. Kanan is a little surprised. The stolen cargo turns out to be blaster rifles which Ezra comments can fetch a good amount on the black market. Kanan leaves Zeb and Sabine to watch over Ezra while he joins Hera in the cockpit. They are being pursued by Tie Fighters. Hera is very calm as she discusses Ezra with Kanan while piloting the ship. From their conversation we can tell they've known each other for a long time. Back on Lothal Agent Kallus is updated of what happened in the market place. He fears that what happened may be more than just a simple theft and that this spark must be snuffed out before it catches fire.

Zeb locks Ezra in a storage unit after he implied that Zeb smelt bad when he fell on him. Ezra soon escapes by removing a panel from the back. He makes his way in a crawlspace and falls onto the seat of a turret. Sabine who was going to man the turret orders him to move aside. She removes her helmet and Ezra was stunned for a moment by her beauty. He introduces himself to Sabine. The Tie Fighters are despatched and they escape through hyperspace. Ezra is brought to the cockpit and asks to be brought back to Lothal. The crew of the Ghost agree as they were going back anyway to finish a deal.

On Lothal, Ezra, Zeb and Sabine go to a refugee camp, an area where Ezra has not been before. We see the conditions of the refugees (who are mostly farmers) and learn that the Empire simply removed them by force. The refugees are grateful to the group for bringing them food. Ezra felt he didn't deserve any of their gratitude as he didn't do anything. Meanwhile Kanan and Hera deliver the stolen blasters to Vizago. We get a glimpse of the IG-88 type droids. Vizago withholds some of their payment and offers information regarding some captured Wookies instead.

Back at the Ghost Ezra breaks into Kanan's quarters. Sitting on his bunk, he "senses" something in the compartment underneath and retrieve's Kanan's lightsaber and a Holocron cube. Kanan comes back and Ezra returns his lightsaber. The crew discuss about rescuing the Wookies. Ezra who was being watched by Chopper listens in by breaking back into the storage unit he was previously locked in. He is soon discovered. The window of opportunity to rescue the Wookies is short and they leave immediately. Sending Ezra home would have to wait.

They intercept the prisoner transport. Hera gained permission to dock by saying they were on a boutny had orders to transfer a Wookie prisoner and that the  Emperor would be very upset etc... They dock with the transport. Zeb is brought out handcuffed by Kanan and Sabine. Stormtroopers come to meet them. They exclaimed that that's not a Wookie. To which Kanan replied that Zeb was a rare hairless Wookie. Zeb tried to make a Wookie sound before taking out the Stormtroopers. The three, plus Chopper then boarded the transport. Things seemed too easy as there were hardly any guards. A Star Destroyer suddenly comes out of hyperspace and engulfs the two ships. It was a trap! Agent Kallus had planned this! Kallus boards the transport with Stormtroopers. Comms were being jammed so Hera asked Ezra to board the transport to warn the others. Ezra was reluctant at first but does so eventually. Kanan and Zeb were about to blow the prison door open. Unknown to them, waiting inside were Stormtroopers. Ezra reaches them and warns them. The Stormtroopers charge out. Ezra blows the charge on the door with his slingshot and the trio make a break for it. Sabine and Chopper are in another part of the transport ship disabling the gravity as planned. Kanan's group encounters Kallus's just as the gravity is turned off. Kallous's group was caught unaware. A short mid air blaster exchange and the trio "swim out", pushing against wall etc. Gravity is back on and they meet up with Sabine. They rush back to the Ghost with Kallous and team closing in. Zeb who was still annoyed with Ezra pulls him back. Ezra gets caught. Zeb ponders a moment before escaping with the rest. The Ghost takes off. Sabine had set explosives on the prisoner transport and activates them. The Ghost jumps into Hyperspace.

Ezra is shown in a cell. Kallus pays him a visit. Kallous intends to use Ezra as bait to capture the rest. Ezra doesn't believe that the rest would come back for him. The Holocron Cube is still on his person and he tries to use his hands to open it. Frustrated, he throws it. He sits with eyes closed. The Cube begins to open. He watches the message from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The crew of the Ghost notice Ezra was missing. They chide Zeb for it. And made plans to go back. Ezra faked illness... Stormtroopers fell for it. They open the cell, rushing in and Ezra escapes, locking them in. Ezra easily finds the armoury. He recovers his pack and items and takes a trooper helmet which he puts on. He proceeds into the crawlspace. He's able to listen in on the Imperial comms. He finds out the real location of the captured Wookies. Kallous is in disbelief as he's notified of Ezra's escape. He suspects that the Rebels came back and have already boarded, which turns out to be true. Ezra tries to mislead him through the comms. Sabine paints a design on the hangar floor. Ezra appears from the ceiling at the hangar just as Kanan and co were setting off to find him. Enter Kallous and Stormtroopers. Blaster fire exchanged. The group make it back to the Ghost. Zeb lets Ezra run ahead first this time. The Ghost takes off. Kallous notices the graphitti, realising that's explosive and orders a retreat. It was a little too late. The blast made a hole and Stormtroopers and objects were sucked out into space. Kallous held on long enough till the shields were activated, sealing the hole. He was brought the loose helmet which Ezra was wearing. He deduces that Ezra was listening in and made plans to intercept.

On the Ghost Ezra informs the crew of the intel he got. The captured Wookies were being taken to a spice mine, where with their fur meant a death sentence. The crew did not want to put Ezra in danger anymore but Ezra insisted they rescue the Wookies.

The Wookies were being unloaded off a transport when the Ghost flies by, firing on Imperial forces and landing. All except Hera and Chopper run out, engaging the Stormtroopers. Ezra proceeds to undo the cuffs of the Wookies. Imperial fighters suddenly appear, blasting the Ghost. Hera has to take off. Chopper mans the rear turret. Kallous and more Stormtroopers appear. They engage the Rebels and the Wookies. The plan of escape was the Ghost would fly back and quickly pick up a container which the group had to get into. Kanan tries to buy time. Piecing together his lightsaber and activating it. Kallous and Stormtroopers were taken by surprised. They continued firing and Kanan deflected their shots. A young Wookie had been separated from the group. A stormtrooper is chasing after him and Ezra notices. He runs after them. Kallous notices him and pursues. The Rebel and Wookies board the container and Hera picks them up. Ezra chases down the Stormtrooper on a bridge, jumps over him and unloads mutiple slingshot shots into him, causing him to fall over. Kallous catches up and confront Ezra. The Ghost flys by with Kanan on top of the ship, lightsaber in hand. Kallous tries to blast him but Kanan deflects it back, causing Kallous to fall over. Kallous hangs on as the Ghosts flies away. The stormtrooper who Ezra shot at was also hanging on. He makes a comment about the Jedi and Kallous kicks him down.

The Rebels get a ship for the Wookies. And they part ways. I think one of the Wookies is Chewbacca. The crew take Ezra back to Lothal. Goodbyes arent easy. Ezra returns the Holocron Cube, then nicks the lightsaber off Kanan. Back in Ezra's hideout, he's about to put the lightsaber on display along with the various helmets and items he stole when Kanan appears behind him. He explains about the Force and lightsaber. He offers to train Ezra in the ways of the Jedi if he went with him, or he could stay and keep the lightsaber as another trophy. Kanan leaves. Ezra goes back to the Ghost, making his decision.

In a room, Kallous contacts the Inquisitor and informs him that he has encountered a rebel cell and the leader was a man with a lightsaber. The Inquisitor replies that Kallous did well to inform him.

End

Phew! Now remember to watch the Special on 4 October. It's way better than reading text!

A big thanks to Disney (S.E.A) for the invite. And also to the folks at Starwars.sg.

Star Wars Rebels - Kanan, Ezra, Chopper, The Inquisitor, Agent Kallus & Stormtrooper

Watching Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion had me wanting the figures. I was surprised to find out that they were already out at retail. I went hunting the past couple of days and I'm happy to report that my efforts paid off.

The figures are part of the Saga Legends line. The card design is now a Stromtrooper's helmet with splatters of paint and graphitti on it. The bright colours make it very attractive. The figures that are from Star Wars Rebels have the title printed at the top as you see in the following pics.

Click on images to enlarge. For individual pics and of the card backs you can find them in the gallery. The link to that bottom of the page.

The figures look great! They have a good likeness to how they appear in the show. Despite them being in the animated style, they still have a good amount of detail on them. The paint can be poor so do choose properly if you are able to. Ezra is the most problematic one from what I saw with regards to paint. Most of the characters have only five points of articulation. Chopper has three, head swivel and at the legs. All of the figures can stand well although some of them appear to be leaning forward.

A closer look at the Rebels. Kanan's hair is really nice. I initially thought it was just a painted flat surface but on closer inspection you can make out subtle lines. He's got the pony tail too. The lines of his tan, sweater looking top were etched in. The armour portions, straps and belt were all sculpted. He has a gun at his side but it's not removable. The shoulder armour on his right prevents him from looking that way. Another gripe is that the straps of his knee guards are missing some paint. Moving on to Ezra. He has nice thick locks, and also thick eyebrows. The paint apps disappoint. There's brown bleeding from his vest. The white piece on his leg has chipping. And there are brown stains on the orange areas of his left leg.

From left: Kanan, Ezra, Chopper

Chopper is a nice piece. He's got great sculpted detail, especially on the front. And there's good paint apps to match.

The slingshot thingy on Ezra's left forearm was sculpted. The paint apps for it is decent.

Ezra comes with a trooper helmet. The helmet belongs to speeder bike troopers which you'll see in the show. The helmet is quite a tight fit on Ezra's head.

Kanan comes with a lightsaber. I like that it has a stronger coloured blade. Kanan's right hand was sculpted tilted forward and this makes him look very natural holding the lightsaber.

The Imperial forces now. The Inquisitor is a Pau'un, hence his long thin shaped head. It's textured. There are many lines following the shape of his head. The red tattoos were very well painted. The lines are clean and sharp. The eyes too were very well done. There's lots of nice sculpted detail on his attire. The Imperial symbol was very well painted on his shoulder pads. One negative is the high collar prevents him from looking either side. Agent Kallus is dressed in partial armour. I would have liked if his helmet were removable. His thick sideburns make him unique for an Imperial officer. The Stormtrooper is thinner than previous versions. The armour is flatter. Unfortunately I don't have one to compare with.

From left: Agent Kallus, The Inquisitor, Stormtrooper

The Inquisitor comes with his double sided lightsaber. There's nice detail on the handle. He could really use wrist swivels to properly wield it.

Agent Kallus comes with a rather large weapon. The main barrel is sandwiched in between a blade and what looks like another blaster barrel. He can hold it well in either hand.

The Stormtrooper comes with a standard issue blaster rifle.

There's not much we can do with in terms of posing with 5 points of articulation. I would have liked if they had more but that may spoil their look.

Here's how the figures compare with each other. There's some height difference between them. The Inquisitor is the tallest of the lot.

You can view more pics here.

These figures are great! Especially when you have a bunch of them together. I'm looking forward to adding Zeb. And hopefully Hera and Sabine won't be too far behind. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Collectors Edition 3-Pack Radioactive Man

Something mean and green. And it's not the Hulk.

I'm talking about Radioactive Man, a long time foe of the Avengers. The figure is from the Collectors Edition 3-pack which I got from overseas. He's in his classic look. The body reuses the Hyperion body and was made translucent. His singlet was well painted on and so too the symbol. The "skirt" is a separate piece and is pretty stiff. It hinders leg articulation. The head sculpt is new. He's got a pretty intense look. His eyes have dark green paint around them to help flesh them out more.

A close-up of his head. Click images to enlarge.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. The "skirt" hinders leg articulation.

Comparison shots.

Great figure. Score another one for the "baddies". Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Collectors Edition 3-Pack Ms Marvel

Here's a look at the new Carol Danvers Ms Marvel figure.

Ms Marvel was my most wanted figure of the 3-pack. She's a big improvement over the Toy Biz version and I'm sure you can see why. She's just an awesome figure! She's a repaint of Moonstone. The sculpt suits her just fine. The two characters are quite alike. Moonstone actually impersonated Ms Marvel at one time in the comics. Her mask and eyes were very well painted. There's some light brown shading in her hair which is nice. The lightning bolt was also very well painted. The flesh tone paint on her arms and legs is a little rough. There's not enough paint in some areas and you can see the base black underneath. Her sash is a separate piece and has good detail on it. It has creases sculpted in.

Articulation. She's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, torso pivot, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

Awesome figure. I'm glad we got this before we got a figure of her as Captain Marvel. Thanks for viewing!

Star Wars Rebels Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios & Stormtrooper

Hope you caught Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion this morning. If you missed it, not to worry. It'll be repeated a few times over the next couple of days on the Disney Channel and it'll also be shown on Disney XD tomorrow (5 October). Do check the listings for the two channels.

Right. Here's a look at Zeb and a Stromtrooper 2-pack.

Zeb is a Lasat, a race nearly wiped out by the Empire. His appearance is actually based on the early McQuarrie concept of Chewbacca. The figure has a good likeness to how he appears in the show. He's got a great head sculpt. His skeletal structure is distinct. His green eyes and scowling expression give him a pretty mean look. His body is large and his limbs look muscular. He wears a bit of armour and they have some nice sculpted detail on them. The paint apps are good overall. The stripes on his body in particular were very well painted on. The lines are clean and sharp.

There are some white markings on his left shoulder armour. It was very well done.

A closer look at his feet. They look really muscular. You think with spread out toes like that he'll be able to stand well. He tends to fall backwards and you have to make him lean forward in order for him to stand properly.

He comes with his Bo-rifle. It's a unique weapon used by the Lasan Honour Guard. It's so called as it can be used as a rifle and as a bo-staff. What you see in the following pic is of it in rifle mode. When in bo mode, the two ends will extend out. Unfortunately the accessory doesn't have this function. Still, it's a nice piece and has good detail on it. I would have liked if it had more paint detail on it.

The only paint it's got is on the tip of the rifle.

The Stormtrooper is the same as the single carded version and he also comes with his blaster rifle. It's great that he's the other figure in this pack. Now I don't have to specially hunt for another one. At least two I need for a troop builder type figure.

Both figures have only 5 points of articulation. Neck rotation, peg shoulders and peg hips.

Comparison shots.

That's it for Zeb. You can check out some of the other Star Wars Rebels figures here.

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Collectors Edition 3-Pack Captain America

Here's the last figure from the Collectors Edition 3-pack, Captain America.

The figure is a repaint of the Ultimate Captain America from the Hit Monkey wave. I like it better. I was never fond of him with the grey pants. He comes with the same belt which is loaded with pouches and equipment. Instead of a jacket he comes with a shoulder harness with pouches on them. If I'm not wrong Hawkeye has the same harness, just differently coloured. Both the belt and harness have nice black shading on them. The paint apps of the figure are good. A minor gripe is the grey areas on his biceps have some paint chipping.

There are stars painted on the shoulder hinges. We could have done without them. Whenever we move his arms the stars will be out of alignment.

He comes with his shield. It uses the clip and peg hinge system. My shield was defective, the clip broke after putting it on and taking off a couple of times. Hence you will see blu-tac on his wrist in some of  the pics. The colours of this shield are of a lighter tone than the Ultimate Cap's. The paint is rough on the silver areas.

The shoulder harness and belt are removable. I prefer his look without them. All he needs is a simpler belt. He's a cross between a Classic and Ultimate Cap. He can also pass off as a 6" scale Avengers Assemble Captain America.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, forearm swivel, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot.

I forgot to mention he also comes with an interchangeable Steve Rogers head. It's the exact same sculpt as on the Commander Rogers figure. It's a little too big in size for this body.

Comparison shots.

Nice figure. The 3-pack is a worth it set to pick up. Thanks for viewing!

S.H.Figuarts Iron Man Mark 42 & Tony's Sofa

Hang in there the weekend is almost here!

So I mainly got the S.H.Figuarts Iron Man Mark 42 for the sofa. I need props for photos and comics. Though I haven't done a comic in awhile... The sofa is a bonus with the first release of this figure. The sofa is slightly curved. It measures roughly 18cm (7") in length. The sitting area is roughly 4cm (1.6") in width and the height from the legs to the sitting area is roughly 3cm (1.2"). It's made of solid plastic and it's cream coloured.

The two pillows are stuck together. The back of it is hollow.

I think the sofa is a little small for 6" scale figures. How well a figure looks on it depends if it has sufficient articulation. The Mark 42 has no problems in this regard.

Now we can create the true "House Party Protocol".

The sofa is a great prop. Thanks... Oh wait. There's still the figure.

If not for the sofa I probably would not have got this. And I wish I hadn't. Cause I like it a lot and I'm now very tempted to look for the S.H.Figuarts Mark VII and War Machine. The sculpt and proportions are good. It's got great detail. The paint is simply superb. Metallic paint was used and it makes the figure really stand out. Do take care when handling the figure. I got careless posing him and now there's some marks on his thigh...

Accessories. He comes with 3 pairs of Repulsor effect parts and 3 extra pairs of interchangeable hands. The effect parts may be attached through a peg either on the part itself or on the hands. Only the "Repulsor Blast" hands have pegs on them. There are slots on the back of his hands. When you switch the hands, you are supposed to detach the small gold plate and attach it to the new pair.

He's got great articulation. He's got a ball joint on the upper and lower neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, ball joint wrists, torso pivot, waist pivot, ball hips on up down hinges, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, ankle swivel hinge and pivot, and toe hinge. The shoulder pads have hinges. There's also a hinge on the gold piece of armour on the back of his hand which allows him to do a proper Repulsor Blast pose.

Comparison shots. I just love the shine of this figure. It would have been great if it were as big as the Marvel Legends version.

Great figure and prop. Thanks for viewing!

Avengers Assemble All-Star Loki & Iron Man (Marvel NOW!)

I wasn't aware of any new figures for Avengers Assemble. So it came as a surprise when I saw these two on the pegs.

Loki is a great looking figure. I love the armour. There's nice sculpted detail on it, and also on his attire. You can see the many creases on his sleeves and pants. And I like that he looks a little more beefy. I like the wind swept cape as it gives the figure more "life". The head sculpt is okay. He looks a little lost though.

Loki comes with his helmet and sceptre. The mustard yellow colour they are in spoils them. It makes them look of inferior quality. They should really be in the same gold as his body armour. The helmet fits well and he can hold the sceptre well.

Iron Man's in the Marvel NOW! suit from the comics. I'm not sure if he appeared in it in the cartoon. Again the paint apps is good. I would have liked if he had more paint detail. He has some trouble standing straight and tends to fall backwards.

He comes with a Repulsor Blast effect piece.

Both figures have on;y 5 points of articulation. At the neck, shoulders and hips.

Comparison shots.

Loki is a great addition. He'll help even things up a little. Iron Man is nice. Hopefully we can get another figure of him with more articulation. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Magneto

Enter Magneto.

Magneto is part of the Toys 'R Us exclusive Marvel Legends X-men Jubilee BAF wave. I hate store exclusives as they are difficult to get over here and I end up having to pay more. Anyway, this is the second Marvel Legends Magneto in his classic costume that we've got.  He's got a pretty good head sculpt. He's showing his age with the white eyebrows and the slightly droopy cheeks. He also has a tired expression on his face. The eyes were not well painted but they are passable. From it's shape the helmet looks to be very tight fitting. Unfortunately it's not removable.  The body reuses the SHIELD Agent's body with new forearms and boots. I think it suits him fine. I don't like him overly muscular like the way he's sometimes drawn in the comics. There's some black shading on the body. There's too much of it on the torso of my figure.  I like the shape of the cape. It's very nicely sculpted. It's too big though and it hinders arm articulation. He cannot raise his arms fully. The length and stiffness of the cape also prevents him from doing some poses.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, forearm swivel, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots. This beats the Toy Biz "monkey arms" Magneto.

I quite like the figure. I would have loved if he had a meaner facial expression and his helmet were removable. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Stryfe

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Stryfe.

Strfye is a character I'm not too familiar with. I remember reading some issues with him but that was a long time ago. He's a clone of Cable and possesses the same abilities. He wears a lot of armour as you can see on the figure. The armour makes the figure look a little too bulky for my liking. He's got a nice head sculpt. The helmet has many plates on it and he's got a pretty mean look. The body uses the Hyperion torso with new arms and legs. The arm and thigh armour have grooves in them. The chest armour with the shoulder plates was stuck on. The belt is a separate piece. The plastic of the armour has some swirls in them which spoils the look. He wears a long and heavy cape. He can still stand well with it. I like that the cape is textured. What I don't like is it's shape. I would have have preferred if it hung straight down.

He comes with a sword. There's great sculpted detail on the handle. There must be some significance of it so I looked it up. I found out that it's the sword he used to stab Apocalypse with. Nice! I'm not sure how big the sword should be. It looks a little small on him.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. The shoulder armour prevents him from raising his arms straight up. The cape prevents him from doing some poses.

Comparison shots. Stryfe and Cable should be of similar height. Until a new Cable figure comes along, I'll take it his extra height is due to his armour.

Nice to get another foe for the X-men. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Storm

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Storm.

This is Storm in her current costume. If I'm not wrong, she first wore it in Uncanny X-force. The figure has got a great head sculpt. She has a good likeness to how she looks in the comics. The eyes, eyebrows and lips were very well painted. I love the Mohawk. It was very well sculpted. It's got great detail and I like there's some white shading on it. The body I think is a mix of Jean Grey's upper torso and Moonstone's lower torso and legs. In case you find her a little out of proportion, it's because the black of her costume blends in with her cape, making her look thinner than she actually is. Her costume details were pretty well painted on. A minor gripe is the white on her upper torso and lower torso are of different tones. She wears a soft goods cape. It is attached to her torso joint and it is connected to her wrists with loops. Her cape will get crumpled if not careful.

Articulation. She's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, torso pivot, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. Her hair prevents her from looking up more.

Comparison shots. I still prefer the Jim Lee costume. It's probably because of the 90s X-men cartoon.

The trouble when getting a figure with an updated costume is you need updates for the other characters in the team as well... Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Infinite Series Jubilee

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Jubilee BAF.

You need to get the following figures for the parts to assemble her:

1) Stryfe - head & power effects
2) Magneto - left arm
3) Cyclops - right arm
4) Storm - body & legs

Jubilee is a great looking figure. She's got a nice head sculpt. I especially love the hair. She has a bit of a messy hairstyle and they did a very good job with it. There's even some hair running underneath her glasses. The paint apps are good overall. Her skin tone was painted and she has a fresh look about her. A minor gripe is there are noticeable blemishes on her cheeks of my figure. Her eyes and eyebrows were very well done. Her glasses were painted with a metallic pink. The body reuses Spider-Girl's body with new arms with sleeves. The zip ring of her suit was sculpted on. The only other bit of detail is the painted silver zipper line. She's wearing her trademark yellow trench coat. It's made of flexible plastic. It doesn't hinder articulation too much. It's got nice sculpted detail. The many creases in it make it realistic.

She comes with power effect pieces, one for each hand. They look a little weird to me. Maybe it's their shape and they being translucent. I don't know... They kinda look like goo, maybe even bubblegum.  I initially thought that the white spots were flash spots. But after a second look, I found that they were actually glitter. Pretty cool to make them a little sparkly.

Articulation. She's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, torso pivot, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle swivel and hinge. The elbow joints are very stiff on my figure.

Comparison shots.

Great figure. I like to get a figure of her in her pink shirt and blue shorts one day so as to complete the 90s X-men cartoon team. Thanks for viewing!

GameStart 2014

The first ever GameStart was held from 25-26 October 2014 at the Suntec Convention Centre. It's a gaming convention showcasing the latest upcoming games. Exhibitors for the inaugural event include Sony, Bandai Namco and Blizzard to name a few. We in Singapore have not had such an event in a long time. I don't play much games these days but I was interested in what the event had to offer.

Random loot bags were given out to the first 300 attendees on each day. I was considering going early to get one. A check on the event's Facebook page made me decide not to. It seemed that by 8am there were already more than 300 people in queue. Okay no biggie. I reached half an hour before noon, which was when the doors opened on the first day. I thought I could just follow the tail end in. Boy was I wrong. The queue snaked and stretched a very, very long way. And more and more people continued to join it. The entry system didn't help matters. Even with a ticket, you had to get a wrist band at the door. I should mention that your ticket is also used for lucky draw purposes. Marshals were deployed to hand out the bands before opening time. But due to the sheer numbers, their efforts made little difference.

The queue showed no sign of abating so I decided to go take photos of the cosplayers. The event had a cosplay segment so there were quite a number of cosplayers around.

Fast forward about two hours later. The queue seemed even longer. An empty hall had to be opened to ease the congestion in the walkways. According to Facebook some folks queued nearly two hours just to get in.

I finally went in after 3.30pm. The organisers, Eliphant Pte Ltd may have underestimated the turn out. Only one hall was used for the event. The number of people in attendance could easily fill another. This is definitely a good sign for future editions. I took a moment to take in the sight. The booths were very well decorated and attractive, with spotlights shining and giant banners overshadowing the attendees. The atmosphere was superb. I got a buzz the moment I stepped in. Now if only I could get to the content.

Catching Daigo "The Beast" Umehara in action was one of my objectives. For those who do not know, he is one of the best, if not the best Street Fighter player ever. I was just in time to see him finish of a challenger on the main stage.

It turned out that was the last match for the open challenge. Players and Street Fighter cosplayers then gathered on stage for a group shot.

It was only on Day 2 where I had the opportunity to really check things out. Though there was a long queue, it cleared pretty quickly. Cosplay guest Yasemin Arslan and Angelus from the Neo Tokyo Project were on the show floor. They were cosplaying as Eliza (from Tekken) and Valeera (Warcraft) respectively. Awesome costumes both!

Angelus (left), Yasemin

The PlayStation booth was the first place I checked out. I only realised at the event that it was their 20th Anniversary. Some of the games that we could try out there include Bloodborne, Driveclub, Just Dance 2015, Fifa 15 just to name a few. I played Fifa for a bit. And also Lego Batman 3. It was my first time playing a game from that series and it was fun. The characters are cute. They each have unique abilities. I found out that there will be over 150 playable characters which is awesome!

A highlight at the Playstation booth is The Evil Within photo booth. You can have your face on the cover of the game. The positions of the barb wire are adjustable. I didn't do it. I'm uncomfortable with it... which is probably why I should stay clear of the game.

Evolve I think was the most popular game at the event. The estimated queue time when I was there was 120 minutes! And this was in the morning. The game pits 4 hunters against a monster. All the characters are controlled by players. The objective is simple. Either the monster or all 4 hunters have to be killed. The monster seems more fun to play. He has to eat and evolve first while avoiding the hunters at the start. I like Goliath. I like how he walks and leaps around. He can throw things and breathe fire. *Update -  the monster can win by destroying a base as well.

Having only caught a glimpse of "The Beast" the day before. I was happy to be able to see him in action again at the Capcom Pro Tour Asia Tournament. He played as Evil Ryu and made quick work of his opponent. He only lost one round during the match I watched. I noticed that he looked bored while playing. Now that's scary! "The Beast" won the tournament by the way.

I took the opportunity to play Ultra Street Fighter IV at the Razer booth. I haven't touched a Street Fighter game since I think Alpha. I only know the basic special moves. Surprisingly I was able to beat 2 people out of five with "Ken".

My next stop was the Versus City Retro area where old consoles like FamilyCom, PlayStation and Sega Mega Drive 2 were set up. There were also arcade machines. I felt more comfortable here... I took a turn at Fatal Fury and Marvel vs Capcom.

They had retro game consoles and games for sale. Once upon a time I might have picked something up. Now I think it's better to save the money and buy a PS4.

The Bandai Namco booth now. Some of the games you could try out here were God Eater 2, Gundam Breaker 2, Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Dead Island 2. Those were in the enclosed area which required you to queue. Around the booth you could try various titles from the Tales series and Project CARS.

I'm most familiar with Blizzard stuff. I played Warcraft, WOW and the Diablo series. I'm currently playing Hearthstone. You could try Diablo III and Hearthstone at the Blizzard booth. I'm still not keen on Heroes of the Storm. Guess I prefer to chop up minions. Free Hearthstone card packs were given out and I went and got one. Come on Legendary Card! Lol.

It's about time I introduced you to Alyse. She's the Official Mascot for GameStart.

I caught the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution Beat the Producer Challenge. The producer, Komoto Daisuke said that he would swim back to Japan if he lost. The matches were fast and exciting with the Ultimate Jutsus successfully performed on several occasions. Komoto Daisuke used many different characters. He seemed to favour Madara Uchiha and the First Hokage. I think he played 11 matches, won 5 and lost 6.

The Game On! Cosplay Competition was up next. It was hosted by the Neo Tokyo Project. The judges were Yasemin Arslan, Yuegene Fay and Tessie, all of whom were Cosplay Guests.

From left: Yasemin, Yuegene, Tessie

We saw some fantastic costumes and great performances. I have to mention Blitzcrank for that giant costume. It was hard to see but there was actually smoke coming out from the stacks on his back. The Halo Shock Trooper was fun to watch for the Singaporean style communication. He could not top Deadpool however who deservedly took the Best Stage Performance Prize.

There's still a lot which I haven't mentioned. The producers of various games such as Freedom Wars and Bloodborne were present at the event where they talked about and showcased their games. There were game demos and workshops for Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Fifa 15 and LittleBigPlanet 3 to name a few. Attendees could participate in ConQuest where you collected stamps from the various booths and win prizes from Armageddon. You could register and participate in the Ultra Street Fighter IV and Guilty Gear competitions at the PlayStation Arena.

With regards to merchandise, here's a sample of what you could see and pick up. Click images to enlarge.

Game On! Cosplay Competition

Day 1 Cosplay

Day 2 Cosplay

GameStart was an awesome event! The exhibitors and content brought in were top notch. I'm already looking forward to it next year. Hopefully it will be bigger and better. More space and consoles are definitely needed judging by the turn out. Queue management could have been better. I think we can do away with the tickets and just have the wrist bands.

Right, that's it for my visit to GameStart. Thanks for viewing!

Star Wars Black 6" Tie Pilot

That was fast. I just got the Darth Vader wave and now the next wave is already out. Here's a look at the Tie Pilot.

This is a great looking figure. I love the helmet. It was well sculpted and it looks spot on. The gloss black helps make it stand out. The Imperial emblems were very well painted on. His uniform is comprised of a flight suit and armour. All the parts are new as far as I can tell. His suit has great detail. It has many creases on it and there are pockets on his sleeves and on the front of his thighs. There's a communications pad sculpted on his left forearm. Again the Imperial emblem were well painted on the sleeves. The gloves and boots are gloss black and it helps them stand out from his suit. The body armour is also gloss black. It is smooth and has sculpted shoulder straps. The chestbox at the front was stuck on. All the buttons and switches were sculpted and well painted. The tubes which connect to the helmet are ribbed. The belt is a separate piece and has a sculpted buckle and stud on it.

Some close-ups of the helmet. Click images to enlarge.

The tubes are detachable at the helmet end.

He comes with the same blaster rifle as with the Stormtrooper.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, mid torso rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. Turning his head too much will cause the tubes to detach.

Comparison shots.

Great figure. Now I need to find one more so as to accompany Vader. Thanks for viewing!

Transformers 30th Anniversary Exhibition

The Transformers 30th Anniversary Exhibition is now on till 1 March 2015 at the Annexe, Science Centre Singapore. Learn the history of the Transformers, step into scenes from the movies and most important of all, for me anyway, see the toys!

The exhibition is divided into eight zones. I like the first zone. There's a ton of stuff here There are consoles where you can learn more about the main characters from the movies. You can read about some of the various Transformers series and toy lines from the colourful displays.  A timeline shows the evolution of the Transformers. The All-Spark cube is also here and there are some toys on display which whet my appetite for the main collection.

As you make your way through the exhibition, you'll encounter various Transformers. Hear them speak or hear a sound effect at the push of a button.

One of the activities you can do is the Laser Maze challenge. It is located in the Pyramid from Revenge of the Fallen. What you have to do is to hit the flashing buttons on the wall while avoiding the laser lines in the room. There are several levels of difficulty which you can try out. It's not as easy as you think. I struggled on medium level, breaking six lines and ending with a time of over 200 seconds... There are no prizes for being first though. I feel they should give a weekly prize or something.

A highlight of the exhibition is the Optimus Prime 3D Mapping featuring cool graphics and effects. The full sequence takes around 3 minutes. Here's a short clip of it.

There are movie screenings which you can catch in a theatre. There are two shows daily, one at 11am and the other at 2.30pm. The first Transformers movie is currently being shown. I spoke with an attendant and he said that the movie will change every month. Age of Extinction (AOE) will not be shown though.

Here's a dose of AR. (Augmented Reality) Watch as various Transformers jump out on screen. Pretty cool.

The main highlight would have to be the 7m statues of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Awesome to see!

The venue being the Science Centre, you can learn some things. Trivia such as the following are pasted around the exhibition.

You know what a cube is, but how about the following shapes?

While not exactly Transformium, you can watch iron filings being manipulated to the tune of several pieces of music.

There's an activity zone for the kids. They can do colouring, make clay models, make scrap metal art and cardboard art. These activities are at extra cost though.

I'm getting to the good stuff now. From concept to final product, we get to see the drawings for a couple of Transformers. They are Generations Skybyte, Jetfire and the AOE Starfe. I like that they had the grey and colour models on display.

With the cream and green colours, I initially thought the figure was Tigatron.

The Transformers Collectors Showcase! Majority of the toys were contributed by three collectors. A big thanks to Chee Seong, David and Tyron for sharing. I don't own many Transformers and I love viewing collections. G1, Binaltech, Masterpiece and Generations to name a few are represented. I am a little disappointed that there are only a couple of Beast Wars and Animated. And I felt Transformers Prime could have been better than what was shown.

Here's a sample of what you can see.

Some of the items which caught my eye include the Transformers Commemorative Boxset. They were limited to 100 sets. 2 of these were presented to the Hong Kong Ani-Con in 2008. The box was made of a leather-like material and each contained 5 movie toys with official certificates. I wasn't aware of this and it was my first time seeing it in person.

Another thing of note is the Action Toys Ultimetal Optimus Prime. The figure is die-cast and some of the parts are removable to reveal the skeletal structure. It also features lights and sounds.

I like that that are some artwork and books displayed as well. Transformers is more than just the movies and toys.

Page from Transformers ReGeneration One by Andrew Wildman

Transformers: The Covenant of Primus

There are some custom painted works on display. The following was done by SengZhong.

Singapore is the final stop for the exhibition in Asia. I think kids will like it. If you're thinking of going, I suggest doing so before the school holidays start. I imagine things will get very busy then.

The gallery will not be uploaded at this time. But if you have a pic request you can message me through Facebook and I'll see if I have it.

That's it for my visit to the exhibition. For more information, go to Science Centre and also TF30.sg.
