Ghostbusters Stay Puft Balloon Ghost (Marshmallow Man)

It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! Oh wait... it says Stay Puft Balloon Ghost on the package. Maybe he'll appear as a balloon ghost in the movie. I don't know. In any case he'll always be the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man to me.

I ain't afraid of this ghost. Stay Puft is one of the jolliest looking ghosts around. I like his smile and I like that they sculpted in his tongue for him. It's painted with a nice pink too. His look remains similar to how he looked in the 80s. One noticeable difference is that he's got creases and wrinkles on his arms and legs. This suggest that he's made out of some material, like a balloon as the name says. I would have preferred if they kept his "skin" smooth. He is the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man after all. The head and torso are made with a translucent plastic. That's for his light-up feature. It's good that they kept the white tone of the different areas as close as possible. The paint apps are excellent. I have no complaints there.

He has a light-up feature. Push the button on his ribbon tie and he will light up in red. It requires three button cell batteries to work. The battery compartment is on his back.

He does have some articulation. He's got a peg neck, ball hinge shoulders, wrist swivel and ball hinge hips.

Comparison shots. Stay Puft is supposed to be a giant. But I quite like him in this size. I don't have the Mattel 6" figures if you're looking for a comparison with those.

And just to give you a better idea of his size.

Stay Puft is a nice figure. I just hope he doesn't yellow. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Falcon (Captain America: Civil War)

It's finally arrived! The first lot of several Marvel Legends figures! Here's a look at Falcon based on his appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Falcon is a good looking figure. I like the head sculpt. I think it has a good likeness to Anthony Mackie. The goggles were sculpted on. The moustache was painted. Yes he has the moustache. It's not easy to see it in the pics. I like that his hair is textured. The body is all new, as have been the case with several other Marvel Cinematic Universe figures. He's supposed to be wearing a one piece flight suit but it looks like a jacket and pants combination on the figure. One thing that bugs me is the size of the crotch section. It looks big and reminds me of diapers. I looked up some pics of the real life suit and it does look a bit baggy. So maybe that's why. There's great sculpted detail on his suit. It looks rather plain and "plasticy" though. Thankfully for the bits of paint detail. The red and brown add some needed colour. I like the metallic gun metal at his shoulders and forearms. The paint apps are not good... The paint does not quite hit where they are supposed to in several areas.

Accessories. He comes with a backpack, Redwing (both deployed and not deployed), and his wings. I love that they included Redwing. It could so easily have been omitted. Redwing (without wings) pegs onto the backpack. When deployed we remove it and use the one with wings. Cool! I would have liked if he came with some guns. They are his primary weapons and he has "gun holding" hands after all.

Falcon's wings have nice detail and were made of stiff plastic. You peg them on the inside of the backpack and Falcon is good to go.

Here he is with the wings equipped. The wingspan is impressive. He can stand well with them. I would have liked if they had some joints or flexibility so as to reenact some of the moves he did in the movie.

And just to show you how the wings look like on the Sam Wilson Captain America. I stuck them on without the backpack. Though they are of a different design and colour to how they appear in the comics, this looks pretty good.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down really well. Head rotation is restricted when he's looking down due to the collar. The ab crunch allows one click forward and just half a click back.

The machine guns he's using in some of the following pics are from Hit Monkey. They fit well in his hands. I came across some pics of him using the guns from the two-pack War Machine which are more accurate. I wish I had thought of that before taking the photos.

Comparison shots. He stands around the same height as Captain America.

Good figure. I love they included Redwing. I would be happier if he came with some guns. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Winter Soldier (Captain America: Civil War)

Team Cap is coming along nicely. You saw Falcon now here's the Winter Soldier based on his appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Though there's quite a bit of of parts reused on the figure, this Bucky looks better than the previous one. A lot of that is due to the great head sculpt. I think he's got a good likeness. He has a plain icy look devoid of emotion which suggests he might be under mind control. I like it. His eyes have good paint. Unfortunately he's looking to his right on my figure. There's great detail in his hair. Another great thing is that it has some black shading in it. Very nice! The body reuses the arms and legs of the previous figure. The torso is new. He looks a little out of proportion. The legs seem a little long. I would have liked if he were able to put his arms closer to his body. The jacket has a thick appearance which is fine as he did look rather bulky in the movie. There's great detail on it. They did a great job with the front zip. You can make out the tiny lines for it. I like that they painted it and also the gun handle and buckles of his sculpted on harness. The belt is a separate piece. It can be an annoyance as it moves around when posing the figure.

I tried on the masked head we got from the Mandroid BAF series. It can fit and it looks good on the figure. We'll need to darken the hair so as to be more screen accurate.

Accessories. He comes with a knife and handgun. They are the same ones that came with Scourge from the Red Onslaught BAF series. I don't like this particular handgun as the handle is quite big. He can just barely grip it and it looks awkward for him to use. At least only the handle is brown and not the whole gun. The knife too has a brown handle. The blade is black in colour.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. He is able to spread his arms and legs quite wide. The ab crunch allows two clicks forwards and one click back. Having him bend forward will reveal an unsightly gap on his back. The insight of the ab joint is has no detail and will "break" the look of his attire.

Action shots.

Comparison shots. Bucky is a little too tall. If I'm not wrong he and Cap are around the same height in the movies.

I like the look of the figure. I just wish he were shorter and had better accessories. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Scarlet Witch (Captain America: Civil War)

Rounding out Team Cap is Scarlet Witch. This figure is from the Abomination BAF series.

Scarlet Witch is a beauty! I really love how she turned out. There are one or two issues but she looks great for the most part. I think she's got a great head sculpt. They dolled her up too much though. There's too much blush applied on her cheeks. She had more of a plain look in the movie. Still I don't mind her looking this pretty. She should have some eyeliner applied. I recall her eyes to be quite dark. Her eyebrows, eyes and lips were very well painted. There's great detail in her hair and there's even some black shading done too. Nice! The body is all new. She looks a little out of proportion. I feel the legs are too long. I like her hands. They were sculpted with fingers in mid-motion as if she were using her abilities. She's wearing leather like gloves and there are rings on her fingers. Very nice! Her heart shaped necklace was sculpted on and well painted. Her outfit looks great and very well detailed. You can see the design of her blouse. There are wrinkles in her pants and boots. And also her coat which is textured! Outstanding!

Accessories. She comes with two hex effect pieces. The BAF part is the head of Abomination.

Her hex effect pieces look more like flame effects and are way too big. They cover her hands fully and remind me more of boxing gloves when put on. They have red painted on them and are opaque. I would have preferred something smaller and translucent for her hex effects.

Articulation. She's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge right wrist, swivel and "sword hinge " (up and down) left wrist, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. Maybe I should say ankle swivel. When in use we still have to adjust the thighs quite a bit so as to keep her feet flat on the surface. She can look down well but not up due to her hair. Head rotation is hindered a little by her hair too. The torso joint allows her to bend forward just a bit. Bending backwards is a bit better.

Comparison shots.

Great figure! Now we need an update for Hawkeye but I'm in no hurry for that. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series 3.75" Flight Tech Falcon (Captain America: Civil War)

$

Sticking with the MCU, this time of the 3.75" scale variety. Here's a look at Falcon.

A word about the colours of the figure first. They appear richer in the images due to the lighting. He looks more bland in hand. The torso was made of a shiny plastic and is of a similar tone to the upper portion of his pants. The shiny plastic works here as he wears quite a bit of "armour" and it helps differentiate it from his suit. A bit more paint detail and it'll look really good. There's great sculpted detail on his suit. Metallic gun metal paint was used for the lower portion of his legs. I think it makes him look like he has cyborg legs. The paint apps are good. The red and metallic silver areas were well done. He's missing some paint detail on his left forearm. I like that they painted the buckles on his belt. The head sculpt is good and has a good likeness. The goggles were sculpted. The hair is textured.

Accessories. He comes with an alternate goggles less head, a flight pack, a flight pack with wings, Redwing, a stand and jet effect for Redwing. I wish they included some guns for him.

I got a head with poorly painted eyes. He's looking up, as if he's rolling his eyes. Aside from that he looks alright.

Both flight packs are of the same sculpt and have great detail. I especially like what they did for cavity for Redwing. It has great sculpted detail and has metallic paint on it. Interestingly the flight packs were coloured differently. The one without wings is matte dark grey whereas the pack with wings is metallic gun metal. I think the matte one works better.

Falcon has to stand leaning forward with the wings equipped, otherwise he'll fall backwards. The wings have an impressive wingspan. The colour tones on it are quite light. I would have preferred them in a darker tone.

The wings are able to move up and down. Both wings will move together. The joints for them are quite tight and are able to hold the position you leave them at. The below is the maximum the wings can be raised.

Here he is with Redwing. The stand will peg into either flight pack and will stay on quite securely. The other end has a ball joint and pegs into Redwing. I had some difficulty with this. Removing it is easier. The stand does its job but I don't really like it as I can't find a nice position to put Redwing.

Redwing looks great. I like that they used metallic paint for it. The jet effect piece pegs into the back and looks good too.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, waist rotation, ball hips, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well which is great for flying poses.

Comparison shots.

Falcon is a decent figure. He is as expected of a 3.75" figure these days. I wish they had more articulation. I do like the accessories he comes with. He just needs some guns. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Secret War Captain America

$

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Secret War Captain America.

I should have read the name more carefully. It says "Secret War", and not "Secret Wars". I've been Googling the wrong thing. I have not seen Captain America in this particular costume before and I wanted to know when he wore it. It turns out he appeared in it briefly in the Secret War series published in 2004 - 2005. It's an odd choice to make a figure of. But it's one that Hasbro can make easily. The figure is a repaint of Wolf Cap. The head looks to be a reuse of the Ultimate Captain America head. The paint apps are good. The design, stars and lines on his costume came out clean and straight. The American flag on his left arm was very well done. One thing I don't like is how they painted the silver line through the star on the front. It's kinda distracting. The belt is a separate piece and has some shading on it. It seems out of place with his clean costume.

Accessories. He comes with his shield and an extra open hand with throwing effect attached. The BAF part is the right arm of Abomination.

The shield is the same one that came with Wolf Cap. It's of different colour tones though. It can peg into the end of the red effect piece and make him seem like he's throwing the shield.

The problem with this is it makes his throw awkward, as illustrated in the following image. By right the shield should be heading to his right or towards our view. It's cool they included the effects piece. The execution unfortunately is off.

All is not wasted. I thought of some other uses for the effect piece. Lol.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, thigh swivel and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

It's a decent figure. But it's not one I'm interested in as I have little affinity for it. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Captain Britain (Energized Emissaries)

From one Captain to another. This here is Captain Britain.

I'm not too familiar with Captain Britain. Excalibur too for that matter. I did read some of the comics but they just didn't appeal to me. Still I like that we're getting figures. This figure is of Captain Britain in his modern look. I did some checking and I believe he wore this costume in New Excalibur. The body largely reuses the Hyperion body. It's okay I guess as he is quite a large person. I hope they get round to sculpting slimmer legs for this body someday as the character appears stumpy and bulky presently. The forearms are new and have sculpted wrappings. The lower legs were sculpted to reflect pants. His pants are bunched up at the top of his boots and have wrinkles. The boots too are new. I love that they painted the buckles on them. He's got a great head sculpt. He's wearing a helmet. I like how they did the eyes with some depth so as to give some thickness to the helmet. He wears a relaxed expression and comes across as a pleasant person from his appearance. The paint apps are good. The lines came out clean. The design on his helmet and the Lion symbols on his shoulders were well done. Metallic blue paint was used on his torso and pants. My figure unfortunately has an unsightly splotch of white paint on his right bicep.

He does not come with any accessories. The included BAF part is the left arm of Abomination.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots. I like both versions we've got of Captain Britain so far. This new one will be my preferred display piece for his size.

Captain Britain is a nice figure. He's just on the bulky side for me. Thanks for viewing!

SDCC 2016 Marvel Legends Series The Raft - Enchantress

The Abomination series will have to be put on hold for the moment as there has been a breakout at The Raft! Uh oh here comes Enchantress.

The Raft boxset is a SDCC 2016 exclusive. The Raft is the name of a prison in the Marvel Universe and holds some of the worst villains. In this case the inmates include Abomination, Enchantress, Dreadknight, Purple Man and Sandman. Spider-man is in there too. He's probably checking things out. The box front features great artwork of the above mentioned villains in their cells. I assume energy barriers are what's keeping them locked up. There's an electronic display of their vitals on their cells.

On the back of the box you can read a short description of the villains and of the scene of the breakout attempt.

The front cover of the box is secured with velcro. Lifting the cover reveals the figures in their cells with Spider-man first dealing with Dreadknight. There's more great artwork on the interior. We can see more of the prison and some of the other inmates. They include Electro, Eel and Hobgoblin. Characters which we've recently got a figure of. On the top of the box are clear windows to allow light in should you wish stand it up and display the figures in box.

Now for a look at Enchantress. One of my most wanted figures has finally been released. When you think of Thor villains she ranks in the top ten. For me at least. The figure looks great. She's too tall unfortunately. She's on the Scarlet Witch body. She's wearing heels and is not easy to stand properly. This is compounded by her wobbly knees. She's got a great head sculpt. She has such a devilish look. They sculpted her with a little smirk. Love it! The paint apps are great. Her lips and eyebrows were well done. They even painted in the eyelashes. And she has on shiny light green eyeshadow. One letdown are the eyes which were painted looking up. Her hair has good volume and good detail. The top looks flat especially when view from the back. I like that they did some light brown shading for it. The tiara is a new piece and painted with a metallic green. Her arm sleeves and the band of her skirt are also metallic green. This helps make the figure less dull. The skirt section is a separate piece. It was made of  a thin light flexible plastic which allows for leg articulation. The green rings on her pants were well painted.

Accessories. She comes with the same hex effect pieces as Scarlet Witch. Her's is green

Articulation. She's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. She can look down a bit but not up due to her hair. Head rotation is also hindered a little but achievable. The skirt piece will get raised when she lifts up her legs.

Comparison shots. She and Loki look good together.

This is a nice figure. Just too tall. Thanks for viewing!

SDCC 2016 Marvel Legends Series The Raft - Dreadknight

$

Next up from the Raft, Dreadknight.

Dreadknight is a great looking figure. Hobgoblin's body was put to good use here. It fits the character well, especially the armoured areas. Only the torso, upper arms and upper legs are from Hobgoblin. The gloves, hands, boots and belt come from Baron Zemo. He's got a good head sculpt. It's on the small side though. The helmet has some nice detail on it. The tiny squares at his mouth were sculpted. I also like the stepped lines on the the wings. The wings are soft and flexible. Mine came out warped from the package. I haven't had time to properly fix them yet as you'll see in the pics. The "swirly" type of plastic was used for his helmet. It works here as it makes it look a little worn. The skull logo was very well painted on. I like the tone of the metallic blue used. He wears a cape which looks very similar to Valkyrie's from the older two-pack. I wouldn't be surprised if they reused that and just changed the peg. Both the cape and belt are removable.

Accessories. He comes with his lance which is his primary weapon. I love the look of it. It is suitably long. The length is taller than he is. It was made of fairly rigid plastic. There is some flexibility but you don't have to worry about it warping. There's nice detail on the thick, guard section. The little holes were sculpted. The handle is round while the shaft section is quite flat. I like that some black wash was done to make it looked used.

He also comes with a sword. It is the same sword that came with Baron Zemo. The colours on this one are better and looks like a proper sword. The grip is black and the guard is grey. Like the lance, the sword also has some black wash on it. Nice! The sword may be carried in the loop on his belt.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, sword hinge (up and down) and swivel right wrist, swivel hinge left wrist, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look down well and up decently. As with Hobgoblin, the shoulder hinge can only be moved one.

Comparison shots.

Great figure! I like the look and the colour tones used. I also like the accessories he comes with. Now we just need his Hellhorse. Thanks for viewing!

SDCC 2016 Marvel Legends Series The Raft - Spider-man & Sandman

$

Both friend and foe. Here's a look at Spider-man and Sandman from the SDCC The Raft boxset.

First a word about how the figures were packed which I didn't touch on previously. They shouldn't do dynamic poses in the package. Most of the figures have a warped limb or two. It wasn't as apparent on Enchantress and Dreadknight. Spider-man, Purple Man and even Sandman got it bad. In my case at least.

Spider-man is largely the same figure as the "Pizza" Spider-man. He's got a new head sculpt, different colour tones for his costume and also some different costume design.

It is easier to show than to describe so there you go. The Raft Spider-man is on the right in the following pics. The most notable difference are the eyes which are bigger and more curved at the top. And the black outline is narrower. It's "McFarlanesque". The paint isn't good on my figure. The white is splotchy on close inspection. I'm bothered by the gap between the eyes. I feel they are a little too far apart. The lines on his mask are wider. There's one less line as compared with Pizza Spidey. The spider logo on the front is different as well. This one has a larger body and slightly thicker legs.

This head sculpt is bigger. His chin is sharper and the nose is less prominent.

The spider logo on the back of this figure has a rounder body and thinner legs.

The hands have a different type of peg which is surprising. You would have thought they would use the same ones. The alternate hands form Pizza Spidey cannot fit properly in this figure. It takes a bit of force to put them in and take them out. They may get damaged in the long run so I don't recommend doing it too often.

"Pizza" hands (left), SDCC hands (right)

Now for a look at Sandman. He is portrayed as being in his sand form and hence mostly tan and brown in colour. It is widely speculated that the coloured version will be the BAF of a future Marvel Legends series. I think I'll prefer that over this. Sandman uses the same body as the Absorbing Man BAF. The design of his shirt was printed on the bare body which I don't like. Sure you can see some muscles through a shirt but this is overdoing it. The belt buckle was painted a brownish white. I'm usually happy to see paint detail but it this case I feel it should have been brown. He's got a great head sculpt. He looks pissed. The teeth were well done. The were painted in. What makes them outstanding is that they are of a different shade of white. Nice! His eyes have no pupils and have a brown thin brown outline around them. There's great detail in his hair. It's also got some dark brown shading in it.

Articulation. Sandman has a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look down decently but not up. The ankle hinge is restricted by his pants.

Spider-man has a ball hinge neck, butterfly joint, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. No the hips were not improved.

Comparison shots. I like both versions of the Pizza Spidey. But if I had to pick one I'll go for the lighter blue.

Toy Biz did a great job of their Sandman. I doubt Hasbro's would make me replace it.

I like the addition of another Spider-man. Sandman for me is meh. Thanks for viewing!

SDCC 2016 Marvel Legends Series The Raft - Purple Man

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Purple Man.

Purple Man has come into the spotlight thanks to his appearance on Netflix's Jessica Jones. Speaking of which did you hear the announcements at SDCC? We'll be getting some figures of the Netflix characters! Can't wait for them! There's not much to say about this figure. He's based on his appearance in the comics. The body reuses the suited body we've seen before such as on Agent Coulson and the Chameleon. His suit is of course is dark purple in colour. I like the red shirt and how it contrasts with the purple. I think he's got a great head sculpt. He is an older guy and has wrinkles on his forehead. You can also make out some more facial lines when held up in the light. His purple eyes look eerie. We better not stare at them too long to be on the safe side.  There's great detail in his hair. It's slick and combed. He's also got that little curl hanging down on the right side. Nice!

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

Purple Man is a nice villain addition. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Abomination (BAF & SDCC 2016 The Raft)

Here's a look at not one, but two Abominations. One is the BAF version and the other is from the Raft boxset.

First the BAF. Here's the parts list:

Head - Scarlet Witch
Torso - Eel
Right Arm - Secret War Captain America
Left Arm - Captain Britain
Right Leg - Wonder Man
Left Leg - Iron Skull

The Abomination BAF is a good looking figure. The sculpt is excellent. He's just a little too colourful for my liking though. The colours are cool and well done but when I think of Abomination I think of a plain green coloured monster. The head sculpt is superb. He's got a fearsome look. There's great detail. His teeth were partially sculpted and well painted. His eyes are silver in colour. The eyebrow ridges are thick and bony and there are ridges on his face. The top of his head is bumpy and textured. The surface of it kinda reminds me of broccoli. The body is a combination of new and old parts. The torso, upper arms, hand and feet are new while the forearms and legs are reused parts from the Rhino BAF. He looks stumpy and out of proportion due to his legs. It looks like they stuck on a piece to raise his shoulders. It was not done very well though and you can see where it was stuck on. That is the noticeable curved line across his chest. There's great sculpted detail on his body. The "shell" on his back and shoulders look very thick and durable. His skin has bumps on it and textured, and looks very tough. He has long nails on his fingers and toes. I like that they were painted. The paint apps are good. I like how the different shades of green transition. I also like the black applied on the "shell". I don't mind the blue trunks as that's what he wore originally.

The Abomination from the SDCC 2016 The Raft boxset is a repaint of the BAF version. He is mostly dark green in colour which is my preferred look for him. There are other differences. His eyes are gold here. The inside of his mouth was painted red. Some black shading was done on the ridges on his face and also on his body. Black wash was applied in some areas as well, most notably on the legs. Very nice! His nails are dirty white as compared to black on the BAF version. And he's wearing black trunks instead of blue.

Articulation. They both have a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, knee hinge and ankle hinge and pivot. They can look down well and up decently. The ab crunch allows one click forward and one clik back. I like how high they can raise their legs for a big guy. They are able to sit on the surface with legs stretched straight out.

Something which I saw others do which I didn't realise previously. The printed inserts of the Raft boxset can be used for a prison diorama. Cool!

Comparison shots. Abomination is supposed to be shorter than the Hulk so the size of this figure okay. I do not own the Marvel Select version so I can't compare it with that.

Both nice figures. I prefer the Raft version for the colours. Thanks for viewing!

SDCC 2016 Star Wars Black Series 6" Obi-Wan Kenobi

"Ben? Ben Kenobi? Boy am I glad to see you!".

A SDCC exclusive. Star Wars: The Black Series 6" Obi-wan Kenobi based on his appearance in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. He was one of my most wanted characters from Episode IV. And with Leia going to be released later this year, the main cast will be complete. Whoops. I almost forgot about Tarkin. I'll like a figure of him as well.

Obi-wan comes packaged in a neat black box. On the front is a great portrait of Obi-wan and on the back is an image of his humble abode on Tatooine.

The front cover is secured with velcro and it opens to reveal the figure and accessories. There is no window which I feel there should be. Even if the contents are secured there's still a chance something might drop out. Or even taken. Like the lightsabers for instance.

The portrait is printed on a card and it may be taken out. This is nice as some of us might not want to keep the box but still want the portrait. We can also get creative and make our own portraits and use the box for other figures.

On the back the portrait is the message that Princess Leia delivers. Click images to enlarge.

On the side of the box you can find a description of Obi-wan.

Here's Obi-wan out of the package. He's dressed in his brown cloak and robes. They did a pretty good job with the soft goods cloak. I think it's just the right size. The hood portion is a little big but I was able to get it into a decent shape for the pics. The figure looks great. The head sculpt is decent. It has a pretty good likeness. The head looks kinda longish though and I also feel his beard is too thick. He's crossing into Santa Claus territory. The eyes were painted looking up on my figure which is annoying. There's good detail in the hair. I like that there was some light black shading done and also on the beard.

The cloak is removable. It takes some fiddling as the sleeves are quite large. Here you can better see his robes. They look thick and heavy. There's great detail on it. There are many folds and wrinkles. It is also textured. Great stuff! The lower half of the robes are quite stiff and will restrict leg articulation. The belt and pouch were sculpted on the robes. I like that they painted the buckle and studs. It even has a black wash on it.

Just to show you the detail on his pants underneath. It's textured. The knee joints are also textured. And the leather like boots have wrinkles on them.

Accessories. He come with his lightsaber, Anakin's lightsaber, a table and a hologram figure of Princess Leia.

The table is textured and has electronic lights and sound. It plays the full message from Princess Leia and allows us to recreate that scene from the movie.  Here's a video of it. Please excuse the poor audio.

Pretty cool isn't it. It's advisable to remove the batteries if you don't intend to use it. To do that we unpeg the hologram figure and remove the top part of the table. We'll then be able to access the batteries after unscrewing the cover. It runs on three triple A batteries.

Here's a close-up of the hologram Princess Leia. There's some nice detail on it. The peg is under the figure and it is unable to stand on its own.

I compared his lightsaber with the one that came with the Episode III version. The lightsabers have a similar design as you expect. This new one though is larger in size, has a darker blue blade and has a sculpted ring instead of a peg to attach it to his belt.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint waist, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. The elbows can almost bend 90 degrees. The waist joint allows rotation and allows him to bend forwards and backwards just a bit. Leg articulation is restricted by his robes. He can hardly raise his legs up. He can spread his legs out as there are slits at the sides of the robe.

Comparison shots.

This is a great figure. I'm quite pleased with how the cloak turned out. The electronic table is fun too. I'm not too happy about the leg articulation but I think plastic for the lower portion of his robes look better than if it were soft goods. If you have trouble getting this I think Obi-wan will be released in the regular line as well. Minus some accessories though. Thanks for viewing!

SDCC 2016 DC Multiverse 3.75" Wonder Woman & Invisible Plane

In commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Wonder Woman, Mattel released this 3.75" figure of her with her Invisible Plane via their SDCC 2016 online sale. Here are some pics of it.

The packaging is huge! The 3.75" Superman is pictured to give you a sense of the size. While this retailed for US$15, getting this shipped over here cost quite a bit more than that... The packaging features the cover of Sensation Comics #1, which is the first cover Wonder Woman appeared on.

On the back there's a short description about her and of the figure.

The Invisible Plane comes secured on a tray.

When I first heard about the Invisible Plane being released I thought we would just get the figure only and we would have to pretend it to be in her Jet. Mattel has actually done something like that before with the DCUC Legion of Superheroes Invisible Kid. Seeing the pics put my mind at ease lol. Now the Jet is not what we had hoped for but it's at least something. And at the the price point I can't really complain. That is when not taking the shipping into account... The Plane is made of the sort of plastic used for the bubble of a package. It does feel a bit thicker and more hardy. It can get scuffed and dented so we have to handle it with care. I'm more concerned about it yellowing. It's based on its early appearance. It has a propeller on the front. There's some nice detail on it. You can see some of the panels and covers.

I'm generally okay with the plane. The thing that bugs me though are the "stapled" edges. I would have preferred if they could have "sealed" the plane without it. They remind me of the Toy Biz and McFarlane clamshell packaging we used to struggle with.

Another thing that annoys me is that we cannot take the figure out without doing damage to the plane. It looks like Wonder Woman is going to be stuck in her plastic tomb. You don't have to worry about her moving around in the cockpit as she is tied to her seat. The figure is a repaint of the DC Infinite Heroes Wonder Woman from the SDCC 2010 Justice League Starro set. Gold paint is used instead of yellow and she has painted boots here instead of sandals.

A stand is included to place the plane on. I have never owned this sort of stand before but from the looks of it, it appears to be the Flying Stand 2.0 which Matty sells on their site. I suppose that's one way to clear some of the stock. It's quite a nice stand. The vertical shaft may be extended, there's a hinge at the neck and the claw can be rotated.

When placing the plane on ensure the claw grips the slot where the protruding section is. The plane is quite secure on the stand when still. It may drop off if you move it though. You also can't position it with too much angle / tilt as the whole stand will topple over.

Here's a few more pics.

The plane looks decent. I'm quite disappointed that the figure cannot be removed. Thanks for viewing!

Suicide Squad Review

So I've been hearing a lot of negative things about Suicide Squad the past few days. Now having watched the movie I must say it's not that bad as some make it out to be. Yes it has its flaws. I can see why certain things were done but unfortunately they were just not executed properly.

The story begins with Amanda Waller (Viola Davies) making her case to assemble Task Force X, or as some call it the titular Suicide Squad. After the events of Batman V Superman there is a need to have a response to take on the next meta-human threat. Waller's solution is to make use of dangerous criminals. If the mission goes well, great. If anything goes wrong they can absolve themselves from blame. Cause hey, they're villains.

We are introduced to the team members one by one. This takes up a good chunk of the movie but it had to be done, considering that many won't know too much about these characters. The backstories and flashbacks are quite cool to see actually. We get to see them tangle with some heroes among other fun bits. Given their varying personalities you want to see how and if they can function together. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) was fleshed out more as you expect for what is probably the most popular character on the team. I especially enjoyed her interactions with the Joker (Jared Leto). We also get a glimpse of her in her original costume in an iconic scene from the comics. The other team members include Deadshot (Will Smith), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) and Slipknot (Adam Beach). In charge of this motley crew is Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), with Katana (Karen Fukuhara) tagging along as his backup. The villains naturally won't play along so a nano bomb is inserted into their necks to ensure that they do.

Harley Quinn was the standout character for me. Margot Robbie did an amazing job with her portrayal. She's fun, kooky and crazy. I loved the way she spoke and her mannerism. It felt right out of the Batman: The Animated Series. Amanda Waller was great too. Serious, unwavering and ruthless. Deadshot is a smug, cocky badass. I felt he made one too many quips though. The rest of the team I thought were okay. I'm not quite sure what to think of the Joker. It is a different portrayal that's for certain. He comes across as very "gangsterish" and menacing. His laugh sounds rather forced to me though. I'll wait and see where they go with him.

After all the introductions are taken care of the plot is straight forward. Assemble the team, take out the bad guys. A lot of music is featured in this movie. Too much in fact. I feel they should have confined the upbeat ones to the start of the film instead of sprinkling it all over. They really should not have used "Spirit in the Sky" which is strongly associated with Guardians of the Galaxy. The action is good. Everyone on the team got to show their abilities. I might be nit picking here but one gripe is why the damage inflicted by a regular soldier with a gun is not as effective as Harley swinging her bat. The CG at the final battle is average. I didn't really like the main villain. For something so powerful it really should have done better.

Suicide Squad is quite entertaining. There's good action, a bit of humour and it fits in well in the DC cinematic universe. I think the coolest part is seeing all the individual characters. This bunch is mostly different and new from what we've seen before. They were portrayed well enough. I really loved Harley and Deadshot. And even Captain Boomerang. I hope to see them again. There's a mid end-credits scene so be sure to stay back for that.

DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series Commissioner Gordon

Here's a look at the DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) Commissioner Gordon.

We don't often get civilian characters in figure form, especially for a line based on a cartoon. So I'm really glad DC Collectibles released Commissioner Gordon here and will be releasing several others such as Harvey Bullock and Lois Lane. I'm looking forward to getting them. The Commissioner looks decent. I'm not too pleased with the head sculpt. He looks like a younger guy wearing a disguise. There should be some wrinkles on his face. I do like the hair. That tuft of hair sticking out is spot on. The body looks good. I like the shirt loosely tugged in and his somewhat baggy pants. I think they might have used the wrong colours for his attire. This reminds me more of what Bruce Wayne wore. I checked the promotional images and the colours are different. In it he had a brownish white shirt and light brown pants. I would have preferred if we had got that combination. The trenchcoat was made of vinyl. It was stuck on above his waist. The lower half is flexible and allows for leg articulation. His shoes are quite large and he can stand very well.

Accessories. He comes with an additional interchangeable pair of gun holding hands, a pair of gripping hands, a handgun, a bullhorn, a stand and a base.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, peg hinge hips, knee hinge and ankle rotation. He can look up and down just a bit. The elbows bend less than ninety degrees. He can spread his and legs out wide. The thing I'm most annoyed about is that he cannot raise his legs much and there's no ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

The figure looks good overall. I would have liked if he looked older and had articulation. Thanks for viewing!

DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series Ra's Al Ghul

The Demon cometh.

This figure of  Ra's Al Ghul is based on his appearance from the episodes "The Demon's Quest" from Batman: The Animated Series. I would have preferred him to be in his green suit and tie which is how he often appears in. Still this isn't bad. I like the Batman-esque cape. I like how it drapes over the front of his body. It should be a little longer so that the lower, spread out portion touches the surface. The cape was made of rigid plastic. It has no flexibility. It restricts articulation, especially in the arms. The cape is removable. I was thinking of having Batman wear it but unfortunately he can't as his torso is bigger.

Here's Ra's without his cape. He's wearing what I'll call a swashbuckler attire for that shirt with the strings across the V neck. The strings were sculpted on. There's some nice wrinkle detail on his shirt. The shape of his arms look off. It shrinks very fast from the forearms onward and he has very small fists. They perhaps made it this way so the figure can fit in his cape. He's got a great head sculpt. They got the shape right and captured his likeness very well. He has a fiendish look about him, thanks in part to his eyes being blackened. The white streaks of his hair were painted on. Without the cape his neck looks a little long.

Accessories. He comes with a jackal mask, a pair of open hands, a pair of gripping hands, a stand and base. You'll notice that the hands switch out at the forearms instead of the at wrists. I'm really disappointed he did not come with a sword.

For the jackal helmet you need to plug off the default head first before putting it on. The masked head can be rotated just a bit. He cannot look up or down.

Articulation. He's got a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, forearm swivel, waist rotation, peg hinge hips, knee hinge, calf swivel and ankle hinge. He can look up well and down just a bit. Due to his torso his arms slant when raised forming a Y shape. Having no swivel hinge wrists is a bummer. But that's not as bad as having no ankle pivot. I can understand Commissioner Gordon not having them but for Ra's... it's disappointing. I hope this this not a sign of things to come.

Comparison shots.

The figure looks good. I'm disappointed he did not come with a sword and has no ankle pivot. Thanks for viewing!

DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series Zatanna

Here's a look at the Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) Zatanna.

Zatanna only appeared in one episode of BTAS. I remember I was excited to see her and I remember hoping  to even more characters would appear. We then had Superman, and eventually Justice League and the rest is history. Zatanna looks like she stepped right out of the show. I like the head sculpt. She has a great likeness. I love her cheerful expression. The eyes and lips were very well. Her hat looks to have been stuck on her head. I would have preferred if it were not, then we can use it for poses and other purposes. Her attire consists of a blouse, vest and a short tuxedo with coattails. The bow tie was sculpted, as were the buttons on her vest. I know the buttons are supposed to be on one side but I would have preferred them to be in the centre. As it is her look is a little awkward because of it. I don't like the way they did her ankles. They slant outwards and it just looks weird. Her feet are small and she's wearing heels. It's no surprise she has some trouble standing.

Accessories. She comes with a long wand, a poster of her show with a written note, a pair of fists, a pair of wand gripping hands, a stand and a base. They got the note on the poster wrong. If I recall correctly it should have been signed off as Zanna, not Zatanna. Or was that just the narration. I'll have to go re-watch the episode.

Articulation. She's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, peg hinge hips and knee hinge. She can look down a bit but not up. With the way they made her feet there's not many poses she can do. I'm actually surprised with what I managed below.

Comparison shots.

Am I blue over this figure? Partially. I like her look overall aside from the ankles. And I wish her hat were removable. Thanks for viewing!
