DC Collectibles The New Batman Adventures Etrigan & Klarion

It's been a difficult period for me... I still have some matters to sort out but I do hope things will get back to normal soon. I have quite a backlog which I would like to get through. Here's something I was in the midst of doing awhile back, DCC's TNBA Etrigan and Klarion. I had already taken the photos but I didn't get round to posting them up.

"Gone, gone the form of man. Rise the demon Etrigan!" This is a great looking figure. I really love the size and bulk of him. That though is a bit of an issue as he is top heavy and has some trouble standing. It wouldn't be too much of a problem if he didn't have weak ankles. It appears that they might have intended to give him ankle swivel but did not do so in the end. I took a close look at it and there seems to be some glue at the top of his boots. He's got a great head sculpt. He has a good likeness and looks pretty menacing. I think they got his skin tone just right. There's not a lot of detail on his attire aside from the sculpted white pattern on his forearms, spread open sleeve ends and belt. His cape was stuck on at the shoulder area. It's quite a thick cape and is flexible.

Klarion is a witch boy. Just from his appearance you'll think twice about messing with him. He has an evil look about him. Thanks to his slit eyes with the darkened rings around them along and the sinister smirk. His bowl cut hairstyle and the "horns" were sculpted. He's dressed all in black. I like the detail of his folded up pants and the big buckles on his shoes. His fist hands and open hands were sculpted pointing outwards. This gives him more character but I would have preferred the hands, especially the fists to be straighter.

Accessories. Etrigan comes with an additional pair of open hands, a pair of gripping hands, a stand and a base. Klarion comes with an extra pair of open hands, a pair of gripping hands, his cat Teekl, a branding iron, a stand and a base.

Teekl has a fierce appearance. Its mouth is open and its baring its teeth, like it's hissing at someone. The eyes, nose and pattern on its body was very well painted on. It also has articulation. It's got a ball joint neck, peg joint legs and a ball joint tail. Teekl has the power to turn into a humanoid creature. I guess it might be asking for too much to have a figure of that form included.

The branding iron is said to belong to Morgaine Le Fay and has magical properties. In the episode "The Demon Within" it was used to separate Etrigan from his human host, Jason Blood. The M like brand was sculpted. Klarion can grip it well while it is loose in Etrigan's hands.

Articulation. Etrigan has got a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso with ab crunch, peg hinge hips and ankle hinge. It might look like there is a swivel at the top of his boots but I strongly suggest not move it. He can look up well and down down decently. He can spread his arms and legs out very well. He could really use some ankle pivot.

Klarion has got a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, wrist swivel, waist rotation, peg hinge hips, knee hinge and ankle swivel. He can look up and down well. Leg articulation is restricted by his attire but we still can get him into something of a walking pose.

Great figures. They look good and I'm happy with the articulation they have. This two-pack is one of the more worth it sets to get. Thanks for viewing!

Mafex Batman V Superman Batman

Here's a look at Batman based on his appearance in Batman v Superman by Mafex.

I should have passed on the Mattel figures and waited for this. The Mafex Batman is a much better figure. Check out the sculpted detail. Practically his whole costume is textured. Great stuff! The knuckles area of his gloves and the toe cap of his boots are plated. I like the brass colour used on them. And also on the belt. The belt has various pouches and if you look closely you can see that the belt strap is textured. Very nice! He wears a soft goods cape. The material is kinda like the material used for an umbrella. They did it quite well. The bottom edge is tattered. The sides have a bendable wire sewn in so we can pose it. I'm a little disappointed with mine as part of the wire is sticking out. And I would have liked the cape to be bigger so it can wrap around to the front. I think he has a good head sculpt. The paint apps for his skin perhaps could be better. It comes across as dirt on his face to me rather than a five o'clock shadow. His eyes are white which you may not be able to see in the pics. The neck section looks a little too thick to me. I also would have liked his torso to be a bit bigger.

Accessories. He comes with several extra pairs of of interchangeable hands. There's a pair of gripping hands, gun holding hands, open hands, batarang gripping hands and a pair with two fingers extended which I like to call the "reveal" hands. I'll explain why later. He also comes with a grenade launcher, a batarang, a grapple gun, a smoke grenade, a base and a stand.

Just to better show you some of the above accessories. The batarang hands were sculpted with the thumb slightly above the first finger. The gap allows the batarang to be placed in between them.

The gun holding hands are of course used to hold the weapons. The grip is quite tight and requires some fiddling to get him to hold them. The grenade launcher has great sculpted detail. I think it is a little small in size though and it could use some paint detail.

Speaking of paint detail I like what they did for the grapple gun.

Earlier I spoke about "reveal" hands, the ones with two fingers extended. I think they are for when he slowly reveals what's in his hands. In this case the smoke canister. Or the hands could simply be for him to do the peace sign.

He's got great articulation. There's a ball joint upper neck, a ball joint at the lower neck, ball hinge on a ball joint shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, revolver joint wrists, ball joint torso, ball joint waist, ball joint hips on a hinge, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down very well. He can even cock his head.

Great figure! Fantastic detail and great articulation. Thanks for viewing!

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” toys unveiled in series of original stop-motion animated shorts debuting online today

Launch heralds global UGC contest celebrating fan content, creativity and storytelling

SINGAPORE (Aug. 31, 2016) – A team of Star Wars superfans today revealed the new toy line for the highly anticipated “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” movie via a series of fan-made animated shorts launching on the Star Wars social channels. As part of a competition in collaboration with creative network Tongal, a team was assembled to write, direct and produce original, fan-made stop-motion shorts starring key toys from the new line to kick off a global UGC contest that asks fans to share their own “Rogue Stories.”

“These fan-created shorts are a tribute to the incredible content that the Star Wars community posts online every day,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “The Go Rogue campaign was designed with Star Wars fans in mind – we want them to be front and center in the run up to ‘Rogue One’ by imagining and creating their own Rogue Stories."

When Star Wars news breaks, many fans worldwide react by sharing their own videos online. According to new research, fans posted over 838,000 pieces of Star Wars-related content on YouTube in the past year alone, which is more than 2,296 per day and nearly 96 per hour. Star Wars fan-generated content is also incredibly popular, accruing more than 16.3 billion views in the last year – equivalent to everyone in the world viewing at least two fan-created videos.

The global contest, which kicks off September 30, invites fans to share their own short stories or skits set in a galaxy far, far away… Winning entries from around the globe will be chosen by a panel including “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” director Gareth Edwards. Beginning September 30, fans 18 and older can enter the Go Rogue contest on StarWars.com/GoRogue. Winners will be invited to Lucasfilm in San Francisco to attend a screening of “Rogue One,” and see their short story on the big screen.

The fan-created shorts showcasing the new line of “Rogue One” toys for the first time launches on the Star Wars social channels today, with new installments rolling out through September. The team was lead by James DeJulio at Tongal, and the series was written by Kevin Ulrich and brought to life by stop-motion animators and directors Dan MacKenzie and Tucker Barrie. The stories follow the adventures of “Rogue One” toys from Hasbro, LEGO, FUNKO, JAKKS Pacific, Mattel and Disney Store as they try to track down the building instructions to the LEGO Star Wars Death Star set which have been misplaced by the Empire.

“I’ve been a Star Wars fan my whole life so this is a dream project,” says James DeJulio, co-founder of Tongal. “It’s been amazing to see what an inspiration Star Wars has been to so many members of our creative community, whether that’s coming up with their own Star Wars storylines, or playing out scenes with Star Wars toys at home with their kids. I’m excited to share this first ‘Rogue Story’ with the world and hope it inspires other fans to share theirs.”

The full range of new “Rogue One” and Star Wars products will be available globally starting on September 30. Join the global #GoRogue conversation on social.

Tongal’s creative network includes 120,000 writers, directors and animators across 150 countries. For more information, go to www.tongal.com.

DC Collectibles DC Comics Icons The Joker (A Death in the Family)

Gee I wonder what The Joker is planning to do with that crowbar...

This here is the Joker based on his appearance in "A Death in the Family" story arc in the comics. The figure has a good likeness to how he appeared then. I like the head sculpt. The longish shape is spot on. The eyebrows, eyes, lips and teeth were very well painted. I don't like the shiny "eyeshadow". I suppose its for making the eyes visible from a distance. I find it looks off though when viewing his face up close. I wish his hat were removable. It's stuck on tightly on his head. He's wearing a trench coat. There's good detail on it. The buttons, button holes and pockets were all sculpted on. There's also wrinkles on it. What I like best is they bothered to sculpt the coat tails of his regular attire on the inside. Very nice! The lines on his pants were also sculpted. The paint apps are great and there are no blemishes to speak of. One thing I don't like is that he appears to be a little bow legged. He looks good overall.

Accessories. He comes a Tommy Gun, a crowbar and three right hands. There's one gripping hand and two gun holding hands. The Tommy Gun has some nice detail and was well painted. I like that they did some black wash on the metallic area. And also on the crowbar.

I don't get why he came with two gun holding right hands. He can grip the Tommy Gun well with the first hand shown below but not with the second. The second hand has a more relaxed grip, a harder trigger pressing finger and thumb pointed up. I would have liked if he had a gripping left hand so he can use the Tommy Gun better.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, ball joint on a hinge hips, double jointed knees, ankle swivel hinge and pivot. He can look down okay but not up. He can spread his arms open really well. The ab crunch does not offer a lot of range. The hinge at the hips can only be brought downwards just a bit. Take care when trying to use the ankle swivel, that is turning the whole foot. The joints are stiff and you need to loosen it first.

Comparison shots.

A nice figure. He should have got at least one extra left hand. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Dr Strange, Astral Plane Dr Strange & Karl Mordo

A triple feature! Dr Strange, Astral Plane Dr Strange and Karl Mordo from the just released Marvel Legends Dormammu BAF series.

This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe Dr Strange. He is played by Benedict Cumberbatch and will first be seen in the upcoming Dr Strange movie which will be released in November. The figure looks pretty good. I think the head is a little too big though. The head sculpt is nice and has a decent likeness. His facial hair was sculpted on. His eyes were very well painted. There's a paint blemish at his left eyebrow but I'm going to take it as a small cut. He did look a little beat up in the trailer. I like his combed hair. I think they might have overdid the white on the sides of his head. It looks a bit much. He's dressed in robes. There's lots of great detail on it. There are layers, folds and wrinkles, and it's also textured. Very nice! The "skirt" is a separate piece and it too is textured. He wears several straps and belts and each have a different design on them. I like that the studs and the ring were painted gold. The pants and boots also have nice wrinkle detail. I think the colour of his pants is wrong. It's supposed to be dark blue but I don't mind it being black. He wears a gold medallion around his neck. I suspect it to be the Eye of Agamotto. The design on it is just some curved lines. The Eye is strung to a cord which is textured. He wears a unique red cape. It is pretty flexible. There are various sculpted patterns on it in sections. And some areas are textured. I like the shape of it. He wears it draped more on his left shoulder.

The cape and the Eye of Agamotto are removable. Without the cape the size of his head becomes more apparent. And also his longish neck and small body frame. That is the short width of his shoulders.

The Astral Plane Dr Strange is a waste of a character slot in the wave. Some may want it. But I think the majority of us would have preferred to have got another character. The Ancient One for instance. This figure is the exact same figure as the default version above. The figure was cast in a pinkish tinged pearlescent plastic. The hands are the open hands instead of the gripping hands of the default version. He comes with an all white version of the Eye of Agamotto. They should really have included his cape as well.

Up next is Karl Mordo. You may know him better as Baron Mordo. Actually I might be jumping the gun here. At this point we don't know what direction the movie will take. I'm just going to call him Karl in the mean time. Karl has a nice head sculpt. There's a good likeness. The eyes were well painted and there's good detail in his hair. He's dressed in robes. There's great sculpted detail on it and is textured in some areas. The large band across his mid-section has various straps of different designs on it. The diagonal strap tails off into threads which were sculpted on the green section below it. I initially thought they reused Dr Strange's pants and boots for him but it's not. The boots were painted with a gloss black to help them stand out.

Accessories

Dr Strange comes with an additional pair of open hands (magic kinda gesture) and a translucent magic effect piece. The effect piece is nice. It has the "flames" emanating from it and the pattern and the ancient text were all sculpted. There's a handle on the back for him to use it by, kinda like a shield which I think it might actually be. A magic shield of some sort. The BAF part is the left leg of Dormammu.

The Astral Plane Dr Strange only comes with the head of the BAF Dormammu.

Karl comes with a short staff. I don't think the staff is the correct weapon. I went and re-watched the trailer and what Karl carried on his back had a handle. It could be a sword or a long baton. Anyway, there's good detail on the staff and you can make out the wood-grain on it. He can grip it fine with his right hand but not with his left. The BAF parts are the right leg of Dormammu and two green blue flaming skulls.

Just to show you the handle on the back of the magic shield.

Articulation

Both Dr Strange and the Astral Plane version have a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down quite well. Raising his left arm will cause the cape to look off. Leg articulation is restricted by the "skirt" piece but there's still some nice poses he can do.

Karl has got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge right wrists, swivel and  "sword" hinge (up and down) left wrist, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. Again leg articulation is restricted by the "skirt" piece but it's not as bad as on Dr Strange.

The figures are decent. I like the detail on their costumes. I can't wait to see the movie! Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Nico Minoru (Mystic Rivals)

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Nico Minoru.

To be honest I don't know anything about Nico Minoru. From the bits of info I Googled, I think she's an interesting character. She's a young sorceress. A powerful one I gather especially with The Staff of One in her possession. She likes to dress in the gothic style as you can see on the figure. I'm not sure when she appeared in this particular attire. I think it suits her very well. I really like the combination of colours. The head, torso and boots are new while the arms and upper legs are reused from the young female mould. There's nice detail on her mini corset dress. The lines pattern were sculpted on, as were the buttons. Another great thing is the lower portion where it meets the "skirt" portion is sunken in to allow the "skirt" to not stick out as much and appear jointly together as a dress. Very nice! Man that was a mouthful. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. There's great detail on her boots. The laces and straps were all sculpted and I like that painted the buckles. Speaking of paint, check out her sleeves. There's black lace painted on. Cool! Her tights were also very well painted. The lines on them are clean and straight. Not forgetting her facial features. Again great paint apps. I love her red eyes, black eyeliner and black lipstick. They contrast well with her pale skin tone. I like her hair as well. It's tied in a ponytail and there's lots of great detail.

Accessories. She comes with the Staff of One, an additional arm with her magic forearm and a smoke / magic effect piece for her staff. The included BAF part is the waist section of Dormammu.

The Staff of One I believe is based on its current appearance where it's shorter and has the ball in the middle. The Staff was broken during a battle with Apex it seems and that broken portion magically formed the gauntlet portion for her magical arm. She lost her forearm in battle. When not it use The Staff is concealed within her body. When summoned it will come out from her torso. I read that she had to bleed in order to summon it but I don't know if that is still the case nowadays.

The Staff is gold in colour and has a shine to it. She can only hold it in her right hand (talking about the figure). Her grip isn't strong and it easily falls out. It's worse when the pink smoke effect is attached. The smoke effect piece is nice and helps illustrate her Staff in use. I recommend separating the parts when storing as the Staff will get warped if it stays within the smoke effect piece for too long. The forearm of her magic arm is new. It was made of translucent plastic and has sculpted rings on it. The black portion which is the gauntlet was also sculpted.

Articulation. She's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. She can look up and down very well. Her dress hinders leg articulation from being used to its fullest. Still she can do several nice poses.

Comparison shots.

Great figure! One that I didn't expect to like so much. Thanks for viewing!

Marvel Legends Series Iron Fist (Dormammu BAF Series)

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Iron Fist from the Dormammu BAF series.

Ever since we got the white costumed Iron Fist in the Odin BAF series I've been hoping for the green costume version to come out. And now we have him. And done on what I feel is a more suitable body too. The figure reuses the "Pizza" Spider-man body. There's one notable difference and that is at the forearms. Iron Fist has forearm swivel and that is where we can swap out the hands. I have put the wrapped fists on the figure first as it's the default ones. I like the sculpted detail of the wrappings. And I like that they did a brown wash on it to make it look dirty. Nice! The dragon logo on his chest was well painted. The belt is a separate piece. He's got a new head sculpt. He wears a serious expression on his face. I like the wrinkles on the mask and how it "flows" at back into the knot. It looks better than on the white costumed Iron Fist. The black pattern and eyes were well painted.

Accessories. He comes with an extra pair of energy fists and flame effect parts for when he punches. The BAF part is the shoulder armour of Dormammu. I wish we got some more additional hands like with the white costumed Iron Fist. We unfortunately cannot use those hands with this figure as they are not compatible.

I like how they did the energy fists. They made the actual hands smaller and encased it in yellow translucent plastic to give the effect that they are glowing. This way is better compared to adding effect pieces on the hands which may make them look bulky. With proper lighting you can even make these fist glow for real. The flame effect pieces may be used with either set of fists.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, butterfly joint, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, forearm swivel, swivel hinge wrists (wrapped fists), ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. Note the energy fists have no wrists joints.

Great figure. Thanks for viewing!

Transformers G1 Soundwave and Ultra Magnus statues by Imaginarium Art Unveiled!

Exciting news for Transformers G1 fans! Imaginarium Art has just unveiled the statues of Soundwave and Ultra Magnus at a media event held at the Highlander Bar at Clarke Quay. I got to check out these fine statues first hand. Pics within!

Soundwave was sculpted by Jupiter and Pablo Viggiano. He stands at approximately 81cm tall. One of the main features of the statue is that it will come will some alternate parts so you can change its pose. Click this link for an illustration of the different poses. Soundwave comes with not one, not two but four cassettes! If you're wondering where's the fourth, Buzzsaw is in his chest. (not removable) It's still counted right? The other cassettes are Ravage, Rumble and Laserbeak.

Orders for Soundwave will be taken at the Singapore Toy Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) which will be held this weekend. There will be an exclusive version for the event and that will come with Ratbat! More details on the Imaginarium Art Facebook Page.

Next up is Ultra Magnus. Sculpted once again by Pablo Viggiano, the statue stands at approximately 71cm tall. It will also come with some extra parts so you can change its pose. Click this link to check that out and more. The product is not final so I wouldn't worry about the wheels on his forearms just yet. Ultra Magnus is scheduled for release in March 2017.

The statues look great. The sculpt is superb and there's awesome detail. The ability to change the pose is a big plus. I also love the metallic paint used, the panelling and the weathering they did. If I had the space and budget I'll seriously be tempted.

Both Soundwave and Ultra Magnus will be on display at STGCC. Check them out for yourself!

From left: Rachta Lin, Daniel Yu, Andy, Xuan Ming

They gave a short introduction of themselves and showcased some of their work. On what advice they have to encourage young people in the creative scene. They had the following to say:

(all responses were summarised and paraphrased)

Rachta -  The most imoprtant thing is the willpower, passion and the courage to make the first step.

Daniel - Agreed that passion is key. He feels that as an artist you need to have the mindset of an entrepreneur as at the end of the day you're ultimately running your own business, cultivating your brand and trying to establish yourself. It is a balance of everything.

Andy - Talked about being an artist as a career. He feels there is a need to demystify the whole artist thing. Some people think that you need to have talent or need to starve in order to pursue a career. He related a story of when he was doing caricature at a shopping mall. There was a rich looking lady who, through conversation mentioned that Andy's parents must be sad with him becoming an artist though he majored in Economics at NUS. In truth Andy's parents are okay with the job he is doing. He mentioned that he made the lady's nose bigger in the caricature. He said that it is important for artists to have industry experience. A lot of the time people do not know what it takes to get there. He feels we need a few "Joseph Schoolings" of the art industry to inspire more young artists.

Xuan Ming- Said that being an artist nowadays is a new challenge and not so straight forward compared to the old days. Artists will need to think about how to monetise their art. Whether you like it or not it is a business. One needs to know how Patreon and Paypal works for example and to use social media to their advantage to spread out their works and reach more fans.

The next set of guests comprised artists Emma Rios and Hwei Lim, writer Nick Spencer and toy designer John Paul Kaiser (JPK).

From left: Emma Rios, Hwei Lim, Nick Spencer, John Paul Kaiser

A Q&A was conducted. On why they think pop culture / creative industry is becoming this big and why so many people are getting into it.

(all responses were summarised and paraphrased)

Emma - says she loves cinema. Seeing superheroes on the big screen was like a dream come true. Her favourite superhero movie so far is Winter Soldier. She says that there's starting to be too many of them. She thinks the reason people go to these movies to have fun and relax. They take your mind off stuff. The movies help the comics market to be better.

Nick - agrees that the movies are great for comics as they have brought new people in. They are now more interested in the characters and want to find out so they seek out the comics and from there try out other comics.

On who were their inspirations.

Emma - she lists Katsuhiro Otomo as her main inspiration. She had read "Akira" when she was 14.

Hwei Lim - lists Yoshitake Amano who did a lot of graphic design and fantasy work. She felt his work was magical. It was the mood, atmosphere and feeling which it gave her and she felt that that was something amazing.

Nick - lists Brian Michael Bendis, Keith Giffen, Peter David and Chris Clariemont. They were a big part of his reading experience.

JPK - lists Picasso and Carlos Ezquerra from 2000AD as inspirations. With regards to toys he lists Huck Gee and Jason Freeny.

On what advice they for young talent.

Emma - never forget to have fun with your work

Nick - for writing he advises to always finish what you started. The key to learning how to write is learning how to live in someone else's skin, make your characters living, breathing people.

JPK - He believes in opportunities. If you keep on trying, keep practising and keep putting your work out there people will see it. The more you work the more you improve. The more work you do the more ideas you get.

One of the most common topics that come up during STGCC is if a guest have tried any local food. This time round we got to witness them. Emma Rios, Hwei Lim, Nick Spencer and JPK were presented with an assortment of local food. There was chicken rice, moon cakes, egg tarts and burbur cha cha. They all seemed to enjoyed it.

The artists did some live demos for us. Rachta Lin drew a member of the press as Pikachu, JPK customised a figure and Emma Rios and Hwei Lim painted some lovely pieces.

In addition to the catching the many guests at the panels and at the Walk-of-Fame, here's what else you can look forward to:
  • A PC gaming tournament, the Overwatch eSports Mountain Dew Cup will be held for the first time at STGCC. The top 2 teams will walk away with a total prize pool of $2500 cash and other exciting prizes sponsored by Razer, Secret Lab and many more.

Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC) 2016: Imaginarium Art

It's Day 1 of the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention! One of the first things I wanted to do was to check out the Imaginarium Art booth to get a look at their Exclusive Soundwave which comes with Ratbat! He was not displayed during the launch a couple of days ago. Click this link to see more images of the Transformers statues from that event.

And here he is, Ratbat! The front view was taken with flash while the back view was taken without flash. I'll be going back to the event so as to get a matching set of photos.... Anyway Ratbat looks great! I like the sculpt, especially the ears. They always went missing on the G1 toy. No worries about that happening here. And like on Soundwave and the other cassettes there's some weathering done.

I was unable to get take the back view of Soundwave the other day so here it is.

Ultra Magnus as well.

I caught up with Shah who is the Managing Director at Imaginarium Art and asked him a few questions. Here's what I found out:
  • They had only two days to paint Ultra Magnus for the launch hence it does not look as good as Soundwave.
  • They are going for a semi- transparent look for his chest. That is the yellowish are which may not end up being yellowish.
  • They have heard the feedback regarding the wheels on Ultra Magnus. The wheels may be removed totally or they may insert magnets for them so that customers can have the option of displaying the statue with it or without.
  • Imaginarium Art is solely focus on G1 Transformers at the moment. You can expect more of them to be released.

Here's a quick look at the Imaginarium Art booth.

Check out some of their Marvel statues.

Mystery no more! The Exclusive SJ50 MY FIRST BE@ARBRICK BABY 400% as well as its 100% counterpart were unveiled for the first time to the world today at the Singapore Toy Game and Comic Convention (STGCC). The figure is a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations.

Limited quantities were available for pre-order at STGCC. It's no wonder I saw long queues early on in the day. The 400% sold out very quickly.....

Displayed along with the SJ50 MY FIRST BE@ARBRICK BABY were its predecessors. There was the 15th Anniversary Pearl version, Colette version, Pearl Orange version and the Pearl Navy version. All not for sale unfortunately.

Also at the booth is this gorgeous SJ50 display of BE@RBRICKS. There must be hundreds there! Pretty!

There will be a SJ50 Matsuri event in Singapore. It will be held from 29 - 30 October 2016 at the Civic Plaza Outdoor Courtyard Ngee Ann City. There's going to be traditional and pop Japanese culture, live performances, demonstrations, talk shows, food and drinks. Mark the date!

STGCC 2016 The Falcon's Hangar - Comicave Studios, Storm Collectibles & Kids Logic

Some very tempting goodies spotted around the Falcon's Hangar booth at STGCC. They include items from Comicave Studios, Storm Collectibles and Kids Logic.

You may recall hearing about a life-sized statue of Captain America being erected in Brooklyn, New York last month to mark Cap's 75th Anniversary. Well the folks responsible for that are from Comicave Studios and they've brought the 1/12 scale version to STGCC. This piece is available from the Falcon's Hangar and man does it look gorgeous.

Also from Comicave Studios are the upcoming TMNT CUBE IT and Sanrio PODz. They look so cute!

I was most excited to see the Street Fighter V figures from Storm Collectibles.

On display is the recently announced Ken. Looking good! I can't wait for the line to hit!

Almost missed this one. Kids Nations DC figures from Kids Logic.

The following are just prototypes and pending approval. I think the set from Suicide Squad is first to be displayed at STGCC. I did not know anything about them prior to today.

And here are the figures from Batman v Superman.

The following is a Limited Edition set of Batman and Superman in their classic costumes.

Cool stuff! STGCC is now on till Sunday, 11 September  2016. Click the following link for details: http://www.singaporetgcc.com/

STGCC 2016 Artist Alley Feature - ZEKEZACHZOOM (Stand AA24)

There's a number of new faces in the Artist Alley at STGCC this year. Several stalls caught the eye, including one ZEKEZACHZOOM which I recall seeing at the Star Wars Day event earlier this year. I decided to have a chat with him.

ZEKEZACHZOOM is a toy photography site where fun, sometimes weird mashups happens. Sunny is the man behind the name and he is selling his work in the form of prints. It's pronounced "Zeek-zag-zoom" and it was actually derived from the names of his kids with the "zoom" portion added by himself. He likes the name as it is unique, and it made for easy registering of a website. He had the need for a name as he often saw his work published on other various websites.

He got started with toy photography when he messed around with a Spider-man figure which was left unpacked when his family was moving house. The response online he got from it was positive and he decided to continue taking photos. Sunny now works mainly with Star Wars figures and largely base them on 80s movies which he is more familiar with. He tries to cater his images to all ages. One of his most popular images he says is one where the Stormtrooper misses his shots.

He sees taking photos as a hobby and just wants to see how far it can go. He's been attending events to gain more exposure. He likes seeing peoples' reaction to his work and gets more motivated to continue. Depending on the response he will see if he'll be back again at STGCC next year.

Sunny has started a a Facebook group called Plastic Singapore. Members get together now and then and bring their toys out to take photos at different locations. The key is to have a uniquely Singapore type of shots. He describes the outings like toy safaris. Plastic Singapore was not intended to involve group outings at first. He just wanted to create images in a Singaporean context. But after a friend invited him out to one which he enjoyed, he decided to organise outings of his own.

ZEKEZACHZOOM can be found in the Artist Alley at Stand AA24. Do pay him a visit!

STGCC is on from now till Sunday, 11 September 2016. More details can be found on their site:http://www.singaporetgcc.com/

STGCC 2016 - XM Studios

Can't make it to STGCC? Not to worry I got you covered. For some of the toy sections at least. Here's what was at the XM Studios booth.

I hope those who wanted to make orders manage to get what you wanted. The queues are crazy! Especially in the first half of the day. It is testament to the quality products XM Studios are offering.

I'll just highlight some statues which caught the eye and you can see the rest of my photos in the gallery.

I love the Spider-man and Mary Jane statue. But believe it or not, the Kingpin trumps that for me thanks to its really cool concept. The essence of the character is well captured. It's so like him to plot characters against one another. And those chess pieces. Wow! The white pieces are of Spider-man, Daredevil and Elektra. The black pieces represent the villains which include the Green Goblin and Sandman. Click images to enlarge.

XM Studios had a special room set up to showcase some prototypes, WIP pieces and concept drawings.

They have a line of their own creations in the works. It's called Moonless Nights. From the artwork it has a fantasy kind of feel to it.

A Star Wars statue is finally shown. And it's none other than Boba Fett!

Boba Fett wasn't the only Star Wars statue on display. No sir. Behind closed doors they had several more. Photography was not allowed. There's the Evolution of Anakin Skywalker piece, Darth Maul, General Grievous, Luke and Yoda, and Luke in pilot outfit. All of them looked great!

That about covers it. Click the link to go to the gallery.

STGCC 2016 - Hot Toys

Images from the Hot Toys booth now.

Five exclusives were offered this year at STGCC. Three of which sold out quickly. The Iron Man 3 Mark XXVII Disco Armour and the Suicide Squad Joker (Arkham Asylum version) were still available for purchase, even on Day 2 of STGCC.

Star Wars featured heavily. Some of the newer figures include Yoda, the Death Star Trooper and Death Star Gunner.

Even the Stormtroopers were checking the figures out. Or perhaps practising shooting a stationary target.

Old Luke based on his appearance from Star Wars: The Force Awakens is looking good!

Not to be outdone is Marvel with this awesome Captain America: Civil War Giant Man scene. Look at the size of that thing!

I was happy to see Deadpool and Daredevil. Those two are very tempting.

Suicide Squad Cosbaby! They look so cute!

And here's a couple from Back to the Future and Aliens.

STGCC 2016 - Bandai / Tamashii Nations

Cowabunga! The Turtles were in town. The S.H.Figuarts classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line that is. That and more seen at the Bandai / Tamashii Nations booth at STGCC.

If ya smellllllll!!!!! what Bandai, is cooking! There was lots of interesting things to see at the Bandai booth this year. Such as the S.H.Figuarts WWE. Shown below are The Rock, Stone Cold and Triple H.

Suicide Squad! I'm still unsure if I should get the them. On thing's for certain they look better than Mattel's version.

Star Wars Movie Realization. I believe the Yumi Ashigaru and the Taikoyaku Stormtrooper are new and upcoming. (Pictured right and second from right respectively)

Yet another Movie Realization figure in the form of Samurai Spider-man.

We got a first hand look at the Chogokin Toy Story Combination Woody Robo Sheriff. The pictured five Toy Story characters combine to form a giant robot. So awesome! Hang on a second. Isn't someone key missing? That's right what about Buzz Lightyear?

Well he's got his own robot. He, a couple of Pizza Planet Aliens and his rocket ship will combine into Buzz the Space Ranger Robo. And you know what else? The Woody and Buzz Robots can combine together and form and even Bigger robot. I'm trying to look for the name but I think it was something like Gangreat King. Spectacular!

Woody will be available in November/December while Buzz will be released in January/February. Both were available for pre-order at STGCC.

Bandai also had a section dedicated to showcase the Star Wars model kits. I love the size and layout of it.

The kits once built can look too clean. Some painted samples were on display to show what a little paint and weathering can do.

And here's some of what else was on display. More images in the gallery.

There was quite a number of items available at their sales section. The S.H.Figuarts TMNT Leonardo and Donatello were available. I so wanted to get them but I didn't budget....

Right that's all for now. You can see more images in the following link:

Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC) 2016 - Recap

The ninth edition of the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention has come to an end. The event was held over the weekend once again at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands, Level B2 Halls E and F.

Queues formed early in the morning, especially on the first day despite the rain. The huge turnout should be of no surprise by now. Not when there are a number of exclusives and new items on offer.

As with previous editions members of the 501st Legion Singapore and Cathar Base Singapura would lead and welcome attendees into the halls. Both groups have been a staple of the event for years and have always been supportive of various charities and causes. They were raising funds for the KK Hospital Health Endowment Fund at the event. A donation entitled you to take a photo with the Star Wars characters present at their booth at that time.

Sticking with Star Wars. There were a number of new and upcoming figures on display from Hot Toys. They include old Luke, Han Solo & Chewbacca, R2-D2 & C-3PO, Rey and Finn based on their appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Marvel had the centre stage with this awesome Captain America: Civil War display which included a Giant Man which stands around 1.7m tall! I wonder if Hot Toys would actually release a Giant Man figure of this size. But then again, its not needed. You can just buy a costume for yourself and be Giant Man. Lol. Other notable Marvel figures include Deadpool and the Netflix Daredevil which were great to see.

On the DC side I was drawn to this colourful display of Suicide Squad Cosbaby. So cute!

Action City unveiled the exclusive SJ50 MY FIRST BE@ARBRICK BABY 400% as well as its 100% counterpart.

The figure is a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations.

XM Studios now where their awesome statues had people scrambling to place their orders. I hear some queued for more than fours hours just to do so. I would love to get a statue or two myself but I'm glad in a way I don't have the budget to collect these.

Here's a sample of some of the statues on display. Amazing work!

They also had a special room set up where they showcased some of their prototypes, WIP pieces and concept art. And behind closed doors they had some of their Star Wars statues on display. Photography was not allowed for those. But what I can say is they look awesome.

More on XM Studios in this link: http://comeseetoys.blogspot.sg/2016/09/stgcc-2016-xm-studios.html

Imaginarium Art unveiled their line of G1 Transformers statues to the public for the first time at STGCC. The first two releases are Soundwave and Ultra Magnus. These statues are highly detailed and come with additional parts which you can swap in to change the pose of the statue. An exclusive version for Soundwave was available for order at the event. The exclusive will come with Ratbat!

More on Imaginarium Art in the link: http://comeseetoys.blogspot.sg/2016/09/singapore-toy-game-comic-convention_10.html

Over at the Bandai booth there was a dedicated section showcasing their Star Wars model kits. I love the layout. Its big, clear and informative.

At the Tamashii Nations section we saw several new items including the S.H.Figuarts (SHF) Classic TMNT figures, SHF WWE and Sanrio Figuarts ZERO PVC figures just to name a few.

Perhaps the most interesting items are the Chogokin Toy Story Combination Woody Robo Sheriff and Buzz the Space Ranger Robo. The characters combine to form a big robot. But you know what? The two sets can be further combined into an even larger robot! How cool is that!

The Falcon's Hangar (TFH) always brings in a ton of products to STGCC and this year was no different. In fact there was even more with Comicave Studios displaying at their booth as well. The highlight from them for me was seeing the 1/12 scale Captain America 75th Anniversary statue.

TFH is a must visit place for 3rd party Transformers.

I was most happy to see the upcoming Street Fighter V figures from Storm Collectibles. I can't wait for this line to hit!

I'll be adding another gallery for TFH in due time.

StarWars.SG put up an awesome display of the hangar of The First Order based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

And at the front of the display is a showcase of Astromech droids which was put up in tribute to Kenny Baker (R2-D2) who recently passed away.

There were no "easter eggs" to be found in the display this year. However there was a small section on the side where various characters were hanging out.

There's still a lot more toy booths which I'll add the gallery link to at the bottom of the page. Right now I'll like to touch on some other things.

I felt the Carousell booth was a great addition to the event. Selected Carousell users could sell their items at the booth for a couple of hours. This meant that the products at the booth were constantly changing and you would want to check back every few hours to see what was available. I saw items ranging from LEGO, superhero action figures and anime figures. I spoke to one of the sellers and he said that they did not have to pay any fees which is great! Hmmm perhaps I should sign up for next year. And hopefully they will have a bigger booth!

The "Game" portion at STGCC got a boost as this year saw the first ever Overwatch eSports Mountain Dew Cup. Judging by the crowd turnout it looks to be a hit. The matches were fast and furious which had the commentators constantly exclaiming with excitement.

Gamers could also try out the recently released Raw Data VR FPS game at the MSI VR Experience Zone. You have got to give Raw Data a try. It is immersive, fast paced and exciting!

From VR gaming to VR entertainment, the Syfy Channel made their debut appearance at STGCC and they were promoting their upcoming series Halcyon which will premiere on 22 September 2016 at 10pm. Halcyon is a cop show set in the future where crime can take place in virtual reality. For the best experience watch it in the Halcyon app for Gear VR. It'll allow you to experience the show in an interactive 3D world!

Just a side note. I was excited when I first saw that Syfy Channel on the list of exhibitors. I was hoping they would bring in the 360 Degree Camera like they did at Supanova in Australia. That would definitely have raised the level of fun and excitement even more. Next year perhaps. Organisers Reed Exhibitions have already promised bigger and better things for next year which will be STGCC's 10th Anniversary. Fingers crossed!

Kinokuniya also made their first appearance at STGCC and from what I observed it was one of the busiest booths for its selection of comics, TPBs, manga and pop-culture merchandise.

Guests aplenty at STGCC. There was so much going on I could not keep up! Here's a few images of some of them.

Seated from left: Simone Legno, Haruhiko Mikimoto, Phil Noto

Jacob Chabot is a fun person to be around. He was always engaging and wore a smile on his face.

Artistes from the AKIBA Pop Stage

Lastly the STGCC Championships of Cosplay which was won by the following cosplayer. The name escapes me for the moment. The competition was close and frankly anyone could have won it. There were many highly detailed and well painted armoured costumes.

STGCC 2016 was another fine edition. I took things a little easier this year and actually spent more time viewing and browsing. I found I enjoyed the event more as compared to running around. One reason for that is that I did not have anything that I really wanted.

More galleries will be added so check back over the next few days.

GameStart 2016: Back with SWAG (and more)

GameStart Asia is back for its third year! Acting on fan feedback from its inaugural convention which welcomed 12,000 gamers and GameStart 2015 which saw 17,000 gamers, GameStart 2016 brings back favourites and introduces new exciting content to provide a diverse and fun-filled three days of non-stop gaming action.

Occupying 4,000sqm of space in Suntec Convention Centre from October 7 to 9, GameStart 2016 will bring gaming enthusiasts three days of game-related fun, including showcases and previews, international guests, cosplay, and visitor favourites like Retro DNA, harkening back the popular arcade and early-generation console games for free-play and purchase. This year, fans will see a stronger focus on eSports, or competitive gaming, with multiple tournaments happening that visitors can register for. There are also special offers on games, peripherals, hardware and merchandise from popular game franchises for those who would hate to head home empty-handed.

In-line with GameStart’s goal of bringing together all aspects of gaming in a single venue, this year’s exhibitor list includes heavyweights like PlayStation, Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia and FunPlus, as well as a strong showing of local and indie game developers and companies, such as Witching Hour Studios, collectible statue-makers Kinetiquettes and Singapore gaming peripheral brand, Armaggeddon.

GAME SHOWCASES & INTERNATIONAL GUESTS

Visitors to GameStart 2016 can get their hands on all kinds of games - from retro to indie, triple A and even card games, with a key highlight of the event being preview demos of yet-to-be-released games. The list of games will be announced nearer the show. Fans of Japanese game Touken Ranbu, will get to meet Yuta Hanazawa from DMM Games, with this being the first time the company has come to Singapore for any promotional activity. A special music performance by Malaysian guitarist, Az Samad, who has performed with Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy, will see him play selected tracks from popular titles. Cosplay is a big part of any gaming convention, and GameStart 2016 is bringing in two renowned cosplayers, Miu (Vietnam) and Okageo (USA), who will judge the GameStart Cosplay Runway, meet fans and sell merchandise. Cosplayers also enjoy free entry to GameStart 2016.

ESPORTS

eSports, or competitive gaming, is taking the world by storm, as the explosion of live streaming and video sharing platforms has resulted in gaming becoming a spectator sport that commands millions of viewers and billions in sponsorship and advertising spend globally. PlayStation returns as a major exhibitor this year with a new focus on supporting the growth of eSports in Singapore and the region. PlayStation will once again have the largest booth at the event, as the Presenting Sponsor for South East Asia Major 2016, the largest console tournament in Southeast Asia, which will be hosted at GameStart for the very first time.

Visitors can expect an action-packed weekend of professional-tier eSports as top and celebrity Street Fighter players from around the world travel to Singapore to compete for a coveted spot in the official Capcom Cup 2016 Finals - the finale of a year-long worldwide league that offers a prize pool of USD500,000. Other notable tournaments are for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, BlazBlue Central Fiction and the highly anticipated King of Fighters XIV, most of which are qualifiers to regional tournament finals in Japan and China.

Notable personalities who will be present include Daigo “The Beast” Umehara, Gootecks and MikeRoss from Cross Counter TV, Mark “Markman” Julio and Singaporean Street Fighter prodigy, Ho Kun Xian, who is a professional gamer, sponsored by Razer.

MyRepublic is the Official Fibre Broadband Partner for GameStart 2016, and also the Presenting Sponsor for the Overwatch Champions Singapore tournament, which will see some of the best teams in Singapore battle it out at their booth for over $5,000 worth of cash, and prizes from co-sponsor Armaggeddon. GameStart’s annual FIFA tournament, the Gamestart Championship Cup, is alsomaking a comeback with support from Xbox Singapore, and over $4,000 in cash and prizes sponsored by GameStart, Xbox and Monitor Sponsor, ViewSonic.

FOUNDERS BASE & DOUJIN MARKET

GameStart is rooted in supporting and putting a spotlight on indie and upcoming talent from Singapore and the region, and Founders Base is where indie game developers and startups are offered subsidised booths to exhibit and showcase their work to visitors. GameStart has just renewed their partnership with Taipei Game Show, in which both parties foster cross promotion of Singapore and Taiwanese games by hosting a number of companies from each country at their respective shows. A number of indie studios from Taiwan will exhibit at Founders Base under the Taipei Game Show umbrella. The inaugural GameStart Indie Awards will see GameStart 2016 visitors vote for their favourite indie game at the convention, and the top-voted indie will win a trip to exhibit at Taipei Game Show 2017.

Doujin Market is the largest amateur artist event in Singapore that focuses on Japanese content, and as a new collaboration for 2016, Doujin Market @ GameStart will bring 24 amateur artists to GameStart 2016, curated by Cosplay Partner and Doujin Market organiser, Neo Tokyo Project (Doujin - Japanese term for self-published works and artwork by amateur artists).

“GameStart Asia’s collaboration with Doujin Market provides great opportunities for upcoming artists to showcase their works, as we want to help shine a spotlight on the immense pool of talent that exists in Singapore and the region,” Elicia Lee, Director of Eliphant Pte. Ltd, said.

TRADE-INS, EXCLUSIVE OFFERS & FREEBIES

In GameStart tradition, the first 300 visitors per day will receive a ‘Random Loot’ goodie bag, which could contain t-shirts or prints from Xmashed Gear, gaming peripherals, high-end storage devices from Seagate or special merchandise from other sponsors. The Quest, Powered by Armaggeddon, will send visitors on a quest to complete specific tasks around the venue for swag, as well as more chances to win prizes in the GameStart Lucky Draw, which includes an ergonomic gaming chair by Secret Lab and gaming notebook from Official Notebook Sponsor MSI. For those looking to offload old laptops, gameconsoles, games (except PC platform) and mobile devices, bring them down to the Gadget Solution booth to trade them in for GameStart vouchers, which can be spent anywhere in the venue, including purchasing and pre-ordering new consoles, games, merchandise and more at the many sales booths, such as local retailer TOG (Toy or Game), Secret Lab, Armaggeddon, Liongeeks and Xmashed Gear.

“We’re excited to bring Southeast Asia’s Premier Gaming Convention back for its third year. Gamers from Singapore and all around the region can expect a bigger variety of content, activities and allthings-gaming over the three days,” Elicia added.
